After spending an afternoon yesterday with @carriejaqs, Microsoft and NYU students, I came away with the strong feeling that most people have no idea how fast Agentic AI and digital-twinning is moving.
There are many areas where the engineers are racing ahead with their objective of “can we”, and not enough work in the ethical and political realm of “should we”.
I’m generally a techno-optimist and regulatory-minimalist as long as the overall system is pointing towards decentralization with strong incentives for checks and balances built into the system.
However, some of the self-driving blockchain agent stuff is truly terrifying if we don’t have means to maintain real human identity skin in the game (humans having final authority and kill switches, human reputation and consequences of agentic creations, and human-in-the-loop IP protection of creative content or even white collar worker protections against training agents against our own interest).
I’m worried that there is nobody running the flag of the “radical middle”, not just the loud voices of the AI doomers or the full on e/acc, but highly technical pragmatists who are at least diving deep on the “can we” / “should we” challenges while moving at the speed of light (almost literally at this point).
