Chevron is seeking a massive tax break in Texas for a new gas-fired power plant would exclusively serve a Microsoft data center.
The plant could qualify for more than $227 million in tax breaks over 10 years, and the power from the plant wouldn't go to homes or local businesses at all.

#infrasound van windturbines tast het #hart rechtstreeks aan: onderzoek in #Mainz toont aan dat het aanzienlijke schade toebrengt aan de samentrekking van de hartspier.
Een epidemiologische studie van de infrasound-onderzoeksgroep aan de Universiteit van Mainz trekt momenteel de aandacht omdat deze een "significant verhoogde incidentie van hartfalen en hartritmestoornissen heeft aangetoond in gemeenschappen met een aanzienlijke uitbreiding van windenergie" in #Borchen en #Lichtenau, Duitsland.
Dezelfde onderzoeksgroep had eerder in het laboratorium aangetoond dat infrasound hartspierweefsel beschadigt.
Epidemiologisch onderzoek heeft nu ook aangetoond dat de schade veroorzaakt door infrasound van windturbines geenszins een verzinsel is van bezorgde omwonenden.
Al in 2019 toonden onderzoekers van het Universitair Medisch Centrum Mainz in een gecontroleerd in-vitro-experiment aan dat hoge niveaus van infrasound de contractiliteit van de menselijke hartspier direct aantasten – en dit gebeurt al na slechts één uur blootstelling.
Deze bevinding kan niet worden genegeerd in het huidige debat over de gezondheidsrisico's van windturbines.
De studie, getiteld " Negatief effect van hoogfrequent infrageluid op de contractiliteit van de menselijke hartspier ", werd gepubliceerd door Ryan Chaban en collega's in het tijdschrift Noise & Health.
Opvallend is dat de studie aanvankelijk werd ingediend op 1 mei 2019. Een herziene versie werd gepresenteerd op 10 december 2019 en blijkbaar geaccepteerd op 3 januari 2020. De studie werd gepubliceerd in het nummer van april-juni 2021.
De wetenschappers gebruikten menselijk hartspierweefsel dat tijdens operaties in het Universitair Medisch Centrum Mainz was afgenomen. De monsters werden onder fysiologische omstandigheden elektrisch gestimuleerd om pulserende contracties te simuleren, zoals die in een levend hart voorkomen.
Van elke patiënt werden twee monsters genomen: één als controle en één dat gedurende een uur werd blootgesteld aan infrasound met een frequentie van 16 Hz bij niveaus van 100, 110 of 120 dBz.

Het resultaat is duidelijk en alarmerend: Naarmate het infrasoundniveau toenam, nam de contractiekracht (CF) significant af. Na correctie voor de controlesamples was de afname bijna -11 procent bij 110 dBz en zelfs -18 procent bij 120 dBz.
De statistische analyse toonde een duidelijke negatieve correlatie aan (R² = 0,631; P = 0,018). De duur van de contracties bleef echter onveranderd. De auteurs concluderen letterlijk:

De onderzoekers gaan nog een stap verder en pleiten voor consequenties voor de milieuregelgeving: het maximaal toelaatbare chronische infrasoundniveau mag niet hoger zijn dan 90 dBz, omdat hogere niveaus de hartfunctie kunnen aantasten. Ze verwijzen ook naar tal van andere studies die vergelijkbare effecten bij dieren en andere modellen bevestigen.
Het is bekend dat windturbines aanzienlijke hoeveelheden infrasound produceren die kilometers ver kunnen reizen en meetbaar zijn in woongebieden – vaak ver boven de limieten die door de autoriteiten worden gebagatelliseerd.
De bevindingen in Mainz verklaren precies waarom bewoners in de buurt van windmolenparken klagen over hartproblemen, vermoeidheid en andere kwalen. Politici die de windenergie agressief uitbreiden en tegelijkertijd de gezondheidsrisico's systematisch minimaliseren, brengen daarmee de gezondheid van de getroffen burgers in gevaar.
Het in-vitro onderzoek in Mainz levert direct mechanistisch bewijs: infrasound beschadigt het hart. Het wordt tijd dat de verantwoordelijken in Berlijn en Brussel eindelijk stoppen met het volzetten van het landschap met dure windturbines, ongeacht de kosten – voordat er nog meer mensen gezondheidsproblemen krijgen.
