This #PVTG #Irula Tribal Couple is 50+ years old. But they are getting their Voter IDs only now. Harsh ground reality. Since we are in the field, we are able to identify and address this.
Now comes another issue.
They don't know how to vote!
When we asked them if they knew how to vote, they spoke something about the ballot paper.
Honestly, how would they know that we have EVM Machines if they haven't even voted once.

If you have any mobile demonstration unit available in Kanchipuram District, please send it to this tribal hamlet in Sriperumbudur and engage people with the EVM. They cannot go anywhere to learn this. Their livelihood is very different. So, we have to go to them. Showing them videos may work. But the best thing is engaging them.
They have got Voter IDs after 50 years. Now, they should exercise their right in the right way.

ஜனநாயகத்தின் புதிய முகவரி: மாரியம்மாள் - மகாபிரபுவின் முதல் வாக்கு
கோட்டூர் பழங்குடியின குடியிருப்பில் உள்ள ஒரு சிறிய குடிசை வீடு. அரசு வழங்கிய பட்டா நிலத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள அந்த வீட்டிற்கு இன்று ஒரு புதிய அங்கீகாரம் கிடைத்துள்ளது. இத்தனை காலமும் எந்தவித அரசியல் அடையாளமும் இன்றி வாழ்ந்து வந்த மாரியம்மாள் - மகாபிரபு தம்பதியினர், இன்று இந்த நாட்டின் பெருமைமிக்க வாக்காளர்களாக உருவெடுத்துள்ளனர்.
களப்பணியும் விழிப்புணர்வும்
பழங்குடியின மக்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்திற்காகத் தொடர்ந்து பணியாற்றி வரும் அரண் (ARAN) அமைப்பு, ஒவ்வொரு சனிக்கிழமையும் கோட்டூர் பகுதிக்குச் சென்று மக்களைச் சந்திப்பதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந்தத் தொடர் களப்பணியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, அரண் அமைப்பின் தன்னார்வலர்கள் காட்டிய விழிப்புணர்வும், அமைப்பின் முறையான வழிகாட்டுதலும் இணைந்து ஒரு முக்கியத் தேவையை இனங்கண்டன.
அரசு வழங்கிய பட்டா நிலத்தில் குடியிருந்து வரும் மாரியம்மாள் தம்பதியினருக்கு, பல சிறப்பு முகாம்கள் கடந்தும் இன்னும் வாக்காளர் அடையாள அட்டை (Voter ID) கிடைக்கவில்லை என்பது தெரியவந்தது. ஜனநாயகத்தின் மிக முக்கியமான உரிமையான "வாக்குரிமை" அவர்களுக்கு மறுக்கப்படக்கூடாது என்பதில் அரண் (ARAN) குழுவினர் உறுதியாக நின்றனர்.
அரண் (ARAN) குழுவின் விடாமுயற்சி
வாக்காளர் பட்டியல் திருத்தப் பணிகள் முடிந்த நிலையிலும், அரண் அமைப்பினர் பின்வாங்கவில்லை. அமைப்பின் தன்னார்வலர்கள் இந்தத் தம்பதியினருக்காகத் தனிப்பட்ட ஆர்வம் எடுத்து இணையவழியில் (Online) விண்ணப்பித்தனர். முறையான பின்தொடர்தலை (Follow-up) அரண் குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்டனர்.
