My account is barely growing in the age of twitter 2.0 with the suppression algorithms throttling it. It was much easier to grow my account in the bad old days of censorial twitter 1.0 (until i got permanently suspended for mentioning ivermectin, then brought back 8 months later by Elon). The censorship was outrageous on 1.0. But my reach and views (when not jailed or banned) were relatively organic. My efforts were rewarded, which is an important part of the feedback loop necessary to keep platform users happy and here. Now there is almost no overt or declared censorship on twitter/X. But there is nothing organic about my non-growth and the puny # of views for a 12K account. And no sense of greater effort netting me greater reward, because greater effort or fleeting success of one tweet seems to net me greater algorithmic suppression. My reach seems much lower now than in 1.0. I would have never acquired my current 12K following under the present suppression system. I would have likely never grown past 1,000 followers at this rate. The algorithmic suppression is too great now for twitter/X to really be any fun. I think it is primarily algorithms (maybe AI driven?) whose suppression tactics are dialed up too high, rather than human interference deboosting accounts. But the X crew needs to reset these aggressive algorithms before users get even more frustrated.
