I presented some results from my recent project at #JSAA2019.
Historically, it used to be "preferred" to say あの人を天才と思った without a copula in the subordinate clause, but now the norm backs up the use of the copula だ as in あの人を天才だと思った。 Don't forget だ!

Not even slightly delayed to my research, but I think my favourite thing I learnt at #JSAA2019 was the story of うつろ船のばんじょ thanks to David Howell's very entertaining paper on "unidentified floating objects"
It was so useful to hear other editors’ stories. Thanks for organising, and thanks for having me! #editorchat #JSAA2019

Great discussions at the #JSAA2019 #studentmobility forum. Loved the points raised around issues of equality and access to mobility for students of all backgrounds. Thanks @Elicia_O and @JPFSydney for making it happen.

Yuji Okawa, Takuya Kojima, Kaori Shimazaki and Yunjing Zheng presenting a thought-provoking panel on the notion of boundaries 「越境」their impacts on learners and how they can be crossed. #JSAA2019

Great talk by Dr. Naomi Kurata on the motivational trajectories of Japanese language learners at #JSAA2019. Interesting to see that a positive experience during a 2 week #studyabroad helped maintain a participants' motivation later during a negative languaging experience.

Keynote address by Prof. Nobuko Kibe from National Institute for Japanese language and linguistics.

If you have time, @mark_pendleton has been providing really fascinating live updates of #JSAA2019 mixing the intellectual and personal. There are many exciting new voices in Japanese studies, some old hands, and some poignant farewells. I couldn't think of anyone better to do it.

“In the female-authored shōnen manga Noragami, the male gaze is subverted by showing the female protagonist’s consciousness of her objectification, and she is given a voice to protest it.”

Last paper in the #NVScholar panel: welcoming @that_shonen_gai to talk about shōnen manga. Introducing his concept of “the shōnen framework”: the tropes and discourses which prescribe and describe the shōnen manga genre. #NVJS10 #JSAA2019
