#JSCEM interim report on 2025 election mainly dealing with polling place conduct - not a full coverage of JSCEM issues.
Recommendations include enforced code of conduct for booth campaigners and zones and personnel limits around booths.

Jerome Laxale (current #JSCEM chair) invites Dutton, Goward, Minchin to give evidence concerning use of Exclusive Brethren in campaigning. Latter two have declined. https://t.co/cx7z5HEhu2
sometimes you have to print something out and stick it in a display book to make it feel real and important and something to be proud of #JSCEM

Oh hey, my #auspol #JSCEM submission [235] got approved in the same tranche as @kevinbonham [243] today! (With how late to it I know we both were (at least prior to the February extension) I wasn't expecting either to hit the web until after the new year.)

@deniseshrivell the ACT would probably send more quality senators like Pocock and Gallagher into parliament, but we only get two shots .. Tasmania, with a similar population around 500K, gets 12 shots .. this is not mathing #JSCEM
With @benraue today in parliament - he’s making a submission to #JSCEM on the 2025 Federal Election.
Yeah retweets are cool but have you lodged a submission yet? https://t.co/aRfzvlFICG

A long day ahead for the #auspol #JSCEM tomorrow as they open their public hearings with the AEC, two think tanks, a former MP, and two academics.

#JSCEM federal election 2025 inquiry is now open for submissions with these terms of reference, however I cannot at this stage find the closing date.

I’ve been part of many elections and I thought I had seen it all, yet the 2025 Federal Election was unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.
Today, I was elected as Chair of Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters. Our committee will be responsible for safeguarding the integrity and future of Australia’s democracy.
No Australian should ever feel unsafe, intimidated or overwhelmed when participating in our elections.
As Chair, I’ll work with the community and across Parliament to:
✅ Review the 2025 Federal Election
✅ Strengthen our electoral system
✅ Ensure Australia remains home to the best democracy in the world
✅ Do what it takes to ensure that whatever happened in 2025, not happen again
Buckle up, it’s going to be a hell of a ride #auspol

@DavidPocock David Pocock should spend some political capital to gain a position on the #JSCEM to replace the only independent representative on the committee, Kate Chaney .. this is where the pedal hits the metal on electoral reform, including agitating for better territory representation
@MichaelWestBiz @MrRexPatrick @AustralianLabor @LiberalAus the bills emerged from the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters #JSCEM after more than a year of submissions and hearings by representatives of the parliament .. as a standing committee it still exists
Just learnt that the #JSCEM Final Report on Federal Election 2022 is out. I'm curious and excited. @DrDemography

Buried in this detail:
Recommendation 2
1.105 The Committee recommends that the representation of the territories in the Senate be increased from two to four Senators each.

Hey @AppliedDemog, @LukeGoslingMP, @Malarndirri19 @SenKatyG @ALeighMP @DavidPocock @DrDemography @CaseyBriggs
@DrKimJohnstone @NickP1963
Looks like the themes from my submissions to current and previous #JSCEM inquiries are getting some consideration. Thanks @AntonyGreenElec
What will happen if the government increases the number of Territory Senators? It is easy to achieve but requires decisions on whether to have staggered terms. But any increase will leave the House of Representatives unchanged. https://t.co/nukq1AtksK #auspol
