1666 — मुगल सम्राट शाहजहाँ का 22 जनवरी 1666 को आगरा क़िले में कैद के दौरान निधन हुआ। वे 1658 से अपने पुत्र औरंगज़ेब द्वारा नज़रबंद थे। इसे मुगल साम्राज्य के स्वर्ण युग के अंत का प्रतीक माना जाता है।
1760 — वांडीवाश (वंदावसी) का युद्ध 22 जनवरी 1760 को तमिलनाडु में लड़ा गया। ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी की सेनाओं ने फ्रांसीसी सेना को निर्णायक रूप से पराजित किया, जिससे भारत में फ्रांसीसी उपनिवेशी महत्वाकांक्षाओं का अंत हुआ।
