19 June 1964 was the UK release date of The #Animals’ ‘House of the Rising Son’. Is it true that @EricBurdon first heard it sung by the Tyneside songwriter-musician and mining engineer #JohnnyHandle in a Newcastle club? A one-take wonder cut a month earlier. Sheer passion.

Scottish musician, songwriter and novelist Matt McGinn (1928–1977) died on 5 January. He made his recording debut on Folkways Records’ Revival in Britain, Volume 1 (1962) with #StanKelly, #JohnnyHandle, #AlanRogerson a.o. His star rose with @TopicRecords VA The Iron Muse (1963).
