Mrs JACQUELINE FALCON becomes the 71st SubPostmaster to have their Convictions quashed by the Court of Appeal.
She commenced the process of Appeal through @ccrcupdate in late 2022.
THE LADY CHIEF JUSTICE: "I add this to the Court's Judgment. Mrs Falcon's appeal was commenced in mid-September 2023. The Registrar granted legal aid for legal representatives to advise and assist her. Her final grounds of appeal were lodged by the beginning of December. UKGOV was adamant on Friday that it would NOT accept plans from the Judiciary that would have rolled back pledge from @RishiSunak to exonerate victims in the Post Office Scandal en masse.
Postal Affairs Minister Kevin Hollinrake met Alex Chalk, the Justice Secretary, on Tuesday to discuss plans tabled by the Judiciary that would have enabled the Attorney-General (@VictoriaPrentis) to submit cases in groups that could be overturned in the Court of Appeal.
Hollinrake told the FTs that the Judiciary’s proposals had come from “experienced voices” but the Government would proceed with its original plans and was in the process of finalising legislation.
Christopher Hodges, Chair of the government-appointed Horizon Compensation Advisory Board, said most victims did not care about how an exoneration happened but about how fast it could be delivered. “People expect it to be done and done quickly,” he said.

The Post Office has published an update on its website on Thursday morning, stating:
“Following a newspaper report in i, first published online on 17 January 2024, and subsequent reports featuring the stories of former Postmasters that used Capture, Post Office can today provide an initial update on its investigation.
“We take very seriously any concerns raised about cases from before the Horizon system was first rolled out in 1999.
“Our current understanding is that Capture does not appear to have been ‘networked’, but the software was used by some Postmasters, alongside manual processes, for simplifying accounts before they were manually submitted.
“We are particularly concerned about allegations of prosecutions, and we are looking into this along with all available facts about Capture, including whether shortfalls could have been caused by faults in this software, and the potential impacts if so.
“Given the passage of time, around 30 years ago, and changes to data storage systems since the split from Royal Mail, we do not yet have a complete picture of Capture but are looking into the issue given the concerns raised.”

Today representatives of Postmasters (@voiceofthePM and @PMsinCWU) accompanied by mutual sector body Co-operatives UK, held a successful meeting with Post Office Minister @kevinhollinrake to discuss the future of @PostOffice.
During the meeting Minister Hollinrake confirmed Government’s interest in hearing all options and solutions, including the possibility of turning the Post Office into a mutual that would be owned and controlled by Postmasters and the communities they serve.
Minister Hollinrake made the following commitments that were very well received by the representatives of the postmasters:
1. Going forward the Minister said he’ll ask the Post Office to engage fully with all bodies representing Postmasters
2. In decisions about the future of the Post Office Network, government will prioritise remuneration of Postmasters and the profitability of local outlets, which it is acknowledged are vital to the long-term health and sustainability of this vital institution.
The Minister has requested a detailed proposal from Co-operatives UK on its suggestion of an independent review into the practicalities of Mutualisation of the Post Office. The sector body believes such a review should be commissioned by @biztradegovuk, headed by an impartial public figure, with a panel comprising postmasters, customers, leaders in large mutuals, industry experts and others with expertise in local and rural economies and high streets. Their view was that among other matters, the review would need to consider how a mutual model would empower postmasters, respond to changing customer behavior, and protect and enhance the already significant social impact of the Post Office network.
