Inflation isn't just an energy problem — the Fed says it's everywhere

#FED LOCKS IN ANOTHER #HIKE AS #KASHKARI WARNS #INFLATION IS SPREADING BEYOND #OIL
Key Details: The #FOMC lifted the funds range 25bp to 3.75-4.00% unanimously, and twelve of eighteen participants project one further 2026 hike, with four projecting two. #CME #FedWatch priced 13.8bp for October and 33bp by December on 18 September. Kashkari told Fox News that inflation remains too high and that pressures have spread beyond the #oil-price shock of the #Iran #war, while Schmid sees inflation trending above 3%, ahead of at least ten #Fed appearances this week. Investors are shifting focus to shorter-dated #Treasuries in a bet the central bank will win its inflation fight.
Impact Assessment: The front end carries the tightening: 2-year #Treasuries rose 7.5bp to 4.745% on Friday and the #dollar index touched 100.55. Broadening inflation argues against an early pause and keeps further #hikes on the table, as competing narratives pit a transitory oil shock against broadening inflation; an October hike skews rates higher, pressuring long-#duration #equities, #gold carry and #highyield spreads. The rotation into short-dated Treasuries reflects confidence in the Fed's resolve but also caution on long-end fiscal risk, leaving the #curve and the #dollar sensitive to incoming core inflation data. Wednesday's flash #PMI is the path-dependent release that could unwind October pricing.

Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari stated that U.S. inflation remains too high; it has moved beyond the oil price shock caused by the conflict involving Iran and is spreading to broader sectors, such as services.
The inflation experienced by the public permeates various parts of the economy, extending well beyond just oil prices.
He noted that the Federal Reserve has both the mandate and the tools to bring inflation back to its target.
Kashkari was one of three officials who dissented against the decision to hold interest rates steady in July; he had advocated for a rate hike at the time, warning that delay could cause inflation to become entrenched and necessitate more aggressive action later.
He believes the U.S. economy remains resilient and the labor market strong.
He hopes that once the impact of the conflict fades, growth will regain momentum and inflation will decline more rapidly, thereby easing the pressure on Federal Reserve policy.

2 dissenting regional #Fed Presidents (#Kashkari #Hammack ) publicly outline risk of not hiking as #Warsh says nothing. However, he is still collecting @federalreserve salary and remains Chairman — but a Chairman without an opinion 🤣
#TDSecurities: #FOMC held rates with three dissents in favor of hikes. #Hammack, #Logan, and #Kashkari also dissented for more hawkish language in April.
#Warsh again provided no forward guidance. Data will remain key.
Rates markets twist steepened as a result of a perceived lack of credibility in #Warsh's ability to fight inflation.
Post rate-hold #USD selloff will likely be short-lived.
