Positive change in the Irish medical system needs to include medical students and interns passionate about a more diverse, representative, and well-staffed system. @itsthatgirlsuzi
Worked 39 hours last week from Monday to Friday, then worked on Saturday and Sunday for 12 hours each and now back again to work for the whole week from Monday to Friday and that includes 12 hours shift on Wednesday. In total I will be working 106 hours without a day off.

Why is #KeepOurDoctors so important? Every year, hundreds of Irish trained internationals are not given the opportunity to stay and serve the Irish healthcare system. This leads to issues with Doctor Retention as doctors migrate overseas. Trust, most want to stay and serve.

Doctors put off by the new consultant contracts, new graduates unable to get intern jobs, migration of doctors to countries like AUS/NZ/UK/US/Canada…ultimately who suffers? #KeepOurDoctors
I saw a questions regarding what internationals do when they don’t get the internship in Ireland. Well in short, we’re stuck in limbo. For non-EU, we cannot practice without the certificate post internship. Sure, we can apply to the UK, but that’ll be next year #KeepOurDoctors
Disappointed to hear that some excellent Irish-trained doctors were not offered intern posts this year. Such a short-sighted decision.
Basically it’s like finishing with an incomplete degree. Very thankful for people who are enraged on our behalf and the general public might not understand how the different training systems work but to conclude;that’s the issue we have with the current situation #KeepOurDoctors
If we want to go to the US/CANADA/AUSTRALIA, exams are needed which also take time and during COVID times, the stress of organizing them can be overwhelming. Some countries have an extended period of waiting and some wait up to a year before starting as an intern #KeepOurDoctors
