This is probably most balanced and well reseached series of articles you will on intenet on this topic. Everything is backed by data I have attached all the references in the replies.
Opinion 1: L&T ran into losses after Mahalaxmi Free buses.
Fact: Not really, L&T has been in massive losses(1300+ crores every year) from the beginning. Most of these losses are due to financing cost (interest repayments for loans). They are operationally net positive though.

Opinion 2: Mahalaxmi Schemes has impacted Ridership and revenues of L&T metros:
Fact: Partially true,Ridership part is true but not the revenues. There is has been very minor drop in ridership, Average of 4.41 lakhper per day in Q12024 instead of 4.44 lakhs per day reported a quarter back in Q42023. Which is mere 3k passengers per day or just 0.6% . At the same time there was growth in revenue, which might be possible due to 2 reasons, 1) Short haul passengers reduced but long haul passengers increased or 2) Increase in other revenue streams.
More over , from 2022, L&T has capacity issues during peak hours. Rush during peak hours is so massive that people dont even have place to stand in platform too ( especially in Raidurgam & Ameertpet). There has been demand to add additional coaches for the demand from 2022 but nothing has been done by L&T. L&T will get immediate bump in ridership once they add additional coaches.

Opinion 3: L&T is selling Metro because of MahaLaxmi scheme losses.
Fact: Wrong, Disinvestment plan is nothing new. Plan is there from L&T from long time. L&T treats Metro as non core asset, it announced disinvest plans long back. They had "lakshya 2026" plan devised back in 2022 for getting rid of Non-Core assets including hyderabad metro. ( *Refer to news article from 2022 in comments)
Moreover, one cannot sell if it is in losses, they need to make it profitable and them only they will find some buyers ( like some pension funds)
