For those of your who couldn't attend #LabPhon18, I uploaded my talk for everyone to watch. Curious to hear what you guys think!

Excited to discuss the role of confirmation and exploration in Laboratory Phonology at #labphon18
It will be streamed at 8AM CDT (3PM CET)

Really enjoyed the last day of #LabPhon18 There was some of the most productive debate of the conference with @TimoRoettger @StefanoCoretta about how we should do exploratory research without dressing it up as confirmatory at the last minute. 1/
A year of planning and organizing #LabPhon18 and 3 great and fulfilling conference days have come to an end. Such an honor and pleasure working with co-organizers @DuemeFlorent @DrLLawyer @academicmargin +ppl not on twitter <3 See you soon! Off we go for ICPhS and #labphon19!
๐We've reached the end of #labphon18, but with so much to look forward to. Next year in Prague for ICPhS, and #labphon19 in Seoul! Now, for a well deserved rest from the committee @KaterinaIliopo5 @DuemeFlorent @academicmargin
Loving the aliens in Danica Ried's talk on learning multiple phonological processes at once. I've always enjoyed Canadian vowel raising, but even better with a mascot! #labphon18
Time for some sonority sequencing! Rowena Garcia shows using infant directed speech gives cues to general SSP patterning, even in languages like Russian which violates SSP. What doesn't IDS do?? #labphon18
Margarethe McDonald shows that more exposure to L2-accented speech = better production of difficult contrasts by kids, but argues it's not because of imitation. What's driving the benefit they get from exposure to L2 speech? #labphon18
Sundara is mapping out a developmental timeline for when infants develop morphological and phonological awareness. Morphemes beat phonemes out of the gate! #labphon18
It's our last set of talks! First up: Megha Sundara takes us through some great head-turn preference research. Brings back happy memories of my first research job! @USCLinguistics #labphon18 #borethebabies
Last day of #labphon18. Was great to see so much engagement at the talks, posters, and also the Whova app. Much of academic life is mind-numbingly depressive, but conferences like #labphon enliven us all and propel us to be inspired by scholars who are doing such amazing work!
Super cool to see all the interest/knowledge-sharing around GAMMs at #labphon18! Looking forward to more work using them to examine data that changes across time (vowel formants? amplitude? pitch? ...learning trajectories?? ๐๐ค)
These sessions are what keeps me coming back to labphon conferences, even when my own research goes in other directions. The laboratory phonology community is particularly forward-thinking when it comes to what we linguists can and should actually do with our data! #labphon18
So, should we mandate peer review of data & code? #labphon18
I don't necessarily want to see the restaurant kitchen, but I do appreciate an expert's approval that the quality is ok. Peer review only evaluates the meal.
This Q&A is spicy! Jason Shaw asks: "Should the journal article be the meal?" rather than publishing a full listing of everything that happened in the kitchen... #labphon18 #gettingmetaphorical

Enjoying the session on exploratory vs confirmatory analyses and significance testing at #LabPhon18
Jonathan Harrington and @MicheleGubian identifying some serious barriers to exploratory research: paucity of available data, and lack of EDA tools. #labphon18
There have been multiple Mr Beans in @StefanoCoretta's slides, and this seems to attract cats (success rate 100%, n=1, fairly uncertain) #labphon18

This plot of data x language endangerment status makes an interesting point: we have about the same number of participants in samples regardless of endangerment status -- also on @StefanoCoretta's site: https://t.co/7p9wVScRds #labphon18
Now up, @StefanoCoretta with the first appearance of Mr Bean at #labphon18! Also, an important take on whether the hunt for p-values is leading us astray.
Also of note in Doucette's talk: a truly beautiful pile of LaTeX equations ๐
