Interesting enough, just heard feedback from @LexingtonKyGov council candidates describing @universityofky as a “cancer” that is too big and needs pushback. One of #1 questions for #LexCity and #LexMayor at the doors? How will you rein in #UKY?

I remember the “listening tours” by @UKYpres during the demonstrations of 2017. The fact that Eli Capilouto is still going on “listening tours” asking students what the solutions are is exactly why so many people no longer have confidence in his administration. The University of Kentucky has an entire army of student affairs professionals, vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, associate vice presidents, deans, consultants, directors, coordinators, and administrators whose literal job is to identify student problems and develop solutions. They are paid extraordinarily well to do exactly that. If students are now expected to do the work of identifying solutions themselves, then perhaps the students should be the ones receiving the salaries, stipends, or grants. At some point, leadership has to lead. Students should absolutely have a voice. They should be heard, respected, and included. But there is a major difference between listening to students and outsourcing institutional leadership to them because administrators cannot—or will not—do their jobs. What is unbelievable is the continued audacity of asking students to solve problems after years of growing budgets, expanding administrative bureaucracy, and endless promises about “student success.” If highly compensated administrators still cannot proffer serious solutions, then Kentuckians are right to ask what exactly they are being paid to do. That is not student-centered leadership. That is institutional failure disguised as collaboration. @UKYpres and @UKYmonday aren’t fooling anyone. Enough is enough for @universityofky.
