6 weeks after our #LifeChangingPractice conference discussing the ‘why’ with @jo3grace, @elly_chapple, @drsarahmoseley, @SENICT and @SarahLeeTeacher, here’s some of the ‘how’ from the last halfterm at #TeamStGiles. ❤️
Another great #SEND #ShareFest24! This time we invited headteachers and SENCOs from all of our local mainstream schools. It was a great opportunity to share our curriculum and how we adapt learning to provide #LifeChangingPractice and plan for the future!! #ThankYou #TeamStGiles

Wow! What a day. Surrounded by such incredible people! A conference focussed on the honesty and humanity that underpin #LifeChangingPractice! Luckiest (and proudest) person alive to be part of #TeamStGiles!!
Thank you to all those who made our conference such a powerful and positive day! Our amazing colleagues, speakers and friends were superb! #TeamStGiles Be brave enough to be human!! @SarahLeeTeacher @drsarahmoseley @jo3grace @SENICT @elly_chapple
Our Keynote from @elly_chapple is underway! The importance of trust, curiosity and the need to #FlipTheNarrative to keep us all human! #LifeChangingPractice
'If you were a car, how would you be running today?'
.@jo3grace shares how to use analogies to support if you have alexithymia. It may be easier for people rather than trying to reach the emotion words.
#LifeChangingPractice
.@jo3grace sharing an example of an autistic child being distressed 'out of nowhere' and the ppl supporting hv tried everything (all the carrots and sticks), when the overwhelm of an environ was obvious to those who ustood autistic sensory differences...
#LifeChangingPractice
Jo explaining, having read many neuroscientific papers, shares that they know the autistic brain is 'uniquely unique' - so different, and then different from one another. In other words, not tartan. (n.b. ask Jo) #LifeChangingPractice
'We need different types of brains to do different things.' The differing brains had value to society as a whole and our survival.
The dehumanising approach taken in education now is that this is not recognised. (At our own peril I would add) #LifeChangingPractice
.@jograce highlighting the terrifying statistics of autistic people we lose, and in her demographic of female, low support needs, there is an incredibly high prevalence. Jo also discusses the difference between person first and identity first language. #LifeChangingPractice
The marvellous @jo3grace sharing she used to worry people wouldn't book her, if she shared she is autistic. And then her son became the youngest author with his book 'My Mummy is autistic' and things changed 😍 ##LifeChangingPractice
@SENICT sharing Wang's story, a student who had never used his comms device. Ian was asked to help, his first thought was,
'Have you asked Wang what he wants?'
No one had ever asked him, yet this was the first step to communicating. #agency #believe #LifeChangingPractice
@mattrooney @StGilesRetford @jo3grace @SENICT @elly_chapple @MrIDEArmstrong We discussed logistics of the pyramid on the train and during our walking tour of Retford 🤣 #lifechangingpractice
