A very interesting study by Osipova et al. (2026) on #evolutionary #adaptations of #birds to high #sugar #consumption, without the #healthproblems typical in humans. The authors examined nine bird species from four #independent #lineages. The #sugaradaptations are thus convergently evolved; nevertheless, the gene #MLXIPL played an important role in the taxa studied, as it is responsible for encoding a transcription factor that increases the genes expressing #glucosemetabolism and #lipogenesis.
