I agree with Andy. Racing is a gambling game of skill and that is what should be marketed, however it never is. We are competing for the time and attention of people who enjoy gambling games of skill. The real competition is the stock market. #lowertakeout
Marketing?
Lots of big talk about marketing and increasing marketing budgets. But, if you triple the money and triple the current efforts you still get nothing. That's because for the most part you're selling the wrong thing.
We've had a couple fairly recent Triple Crown winners right? They were west coast horses right? Did California racing see a bump in handle or increased attendance? Nope. Did racing nationally see an increase in handle and attendance? Nope
So of course it's about the Horses and the Horses who are stars BUT unless you start selling it as a gambling game of skill and marketing the winning Gamblers and their winning gambles the sport/game will NEVER grow.
