It was nice to speak at a small gathering of educationists to celebrate UN-designated and globally observed Malala Day, honoring the birthday and advocacy of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, in her presence. I also met her illustrious father, who is equally committed to the cause of female education.

We’re still smiling from this past week ✨
From spending time with students from Shangla Girls School and our Education Champion Network partners, to meeting with policymakers, and even playing a little bit of football, Malala’s trip home was a reminder of how joyful the world can be when we uplift girls together.
Take a look back at the hope, ambition, creativity and progress we celebrated during this year’s #MalalaDay2026 ♥️

How can we mark #MalalaDay without talking about the policies and resources needed for girls’ education?
Last week, one of our most important conversations was: how do we move from evidence to action?
We know why girls are dropping out. The evidence is clear through our joint report with @PIEPakistangov . Now we need coordination, investment and action.
Pakistan declared an Education Emergency. Let’s make it real, not just words.
Every girl safe in school. Every girl learning. Every girl leading.

Beautifully said, Nishat. Your thoughtful leadership, quiet determination and unwavering commitment made the first-ever #MalalaDay in Pakistan truly historic.
Thank you for bringing so many partners together around one shared mission: ensuring every girl in Pakistan can learn, lead and thrive.

On #MalalaDay, I had the privilege of presenting a traditional Marvi Shaal to @Malala . Marvi, the legendary heroine of Thar, symbolizes resilience, courage, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to justice values that Malala embodies every day.
Let us pledge to stand with her until every out-of-school girl is in a classroom, because school is where every child belongs. Children are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are partners in shaping today.

Recordemos el mensaje principal de la activista, la educación cambia al mundo, ya que tiene un papel transformador en la sociedad.

Today, on #MalalaDay, we mark thirteen years since @Malala Yousafzai stood before the @UN on her sixteenth birthday and called upon world leaders to protect every girl’s right to education. It was an honour to join Malala in Abuja in 2023, at the United Nations House, during her third visit to Nigeria, where young advocates and civil society leaders gathered to renew our shared commitment to the girls of Nigeria and of Africa.
That commitment must be matched with action, for Malala Fund reports that more than 122 million girls remain out of school worldwide, even though a girl with an education can help grow economies, with the global economy standing to gain between 15 and 30 trillion dollars in productivity and earnings each year if every girl completed secondary school. Working alongside local activists, educators, and advocates, Malala Fund has reached 26 million students with education access and resources, and has helped unlock 7 billion dollars for girls’ education since 2013, yet each girl still excluded represents a future leader, thinker, and builder the world has yet to meet.
At the @WellbeingAfrica Foundation, we have always understood that a girl’s education and her health are inseparable, which is why our WBFA Adolescent Skills and Drills Programme sees frontline midwives and nurses deliver personal, social, health and economic education across Nigeria, equipping girls with the knowledge and life skills to stay in school and in good health.
Education makes economies stronger, communities healthier, and nations more resilient. On this day, I join @MalalaFund in recommitting to a future where every girl can learn and choose what comes next for her, and I call upon governments and partners across Africa to invest in the policies, teachers, healthcare workers and safe schools that will carry every girl through twelve years of free, safe, and quality education.

Today isn't just about celebrating a global movement; it’s a reminder of our collective responsibility to ensure every girl has the right to learn, lead, and thrive.
Looking back at this moment from my time strategizing with @ZiauddinY, @NabilaAguele , and the @MalalaFund team, the mission ahead is incredibly clear. Winning the battle for girls' education requires addressing deep-seated social norms head-on. As men, our engagement cannot be passive—we must build real, accountable frameworks that protect our girls, especially when navigating critical milestones where societal pressures spike.
As a filmmaker and advocate, my commitment is to stop just reporting the data and start broadcasting the change. By translating this vital, evidence-based research into localized, high-impact storytelling, we can make male allyship an honorable, proud, and deeply rooted tradition across Northern Nigeria.
Let’s use our platforms, our voices, and our stories to clear the path for the next generation of women leaders. 🎬🇳🇬

“The Taliban could take our pens and books, but they couldn’t stop our minds from thinking.” On #MalalaDay, I think of Malala Yousafzai’s powerful words, which perfectly echo my own convictions about the lifelong importance of education.

On #MalalaDay, India must ask itself: what does education mean if our daughters aren't even safe enough to dream? The recent death of a 13-year-old girl after a brutal rape is a stain on our collective conscience. Justice must be swift, and governments must ensure safety, dignity, education and equal opportunity for every girl. @PMOIndia @EduMinOfIndia @MinistryWCD @NCPCR_ #JusticeForGirls #GirlsSafety #EducationForAll #EndViolenceAgainstWomen
