I hope we raise a generation of girls who never have to ask:
“Am I allowed to do this because I’m a woman?”
Dream. Learn. Lead. Build. Love. Have a family if you want one. Choose another path if you want one.
Your womanhood is not a limitation.
“Give birth early to gain respect.”
Respect? At what cost?
End child marriage. Protect girls' dreams. 💜
Happy International Day of the Girl Child! 🥹
#DayOfTheGirl
On this international day of the girl child, I choose to remember Ochanya Ogbanje, a girl who lost her life in 2018 at age 13 after being ràped for five straight years by her uncle and his son Andrew and Victor Ogbuja.
Ochanya developed a vesicovaginal fistula and was leaking urine and poop till she finally passed on on the 17th of October, 2018.
Today, a whole eight years later, her abusers walk as free men. The world might be silent about Ochanya’s case and getting her justice but we will never forget her story.
I wish to God that does men meet very horrible ends.
May Ochanya continue to rest in peace with God.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
My heart goes out to the girl child in Afghanistan who is unable to go to school, the girl child who is forced into marriage at an early age, the girl child who is forced to see the world through a woven mesh fabric.
The girl child does not need us to decide her future for her.
Give her education.
Give her opportunities.
Give her a voice.
Give her choices.
Then let HER decide who she wants to become.
Our girls are beautiful, bright, ambitious and daring. They deserve our protection and love, they deserve to be treated equally.
Today is a day to acknowledge their rights and autonomy as human beings, and to uplift a girl you know.
Happy International Girl Child Day!💚✨️
