First @recaapisc Governing Council Meeting to not include 🇺🇸 following the US Presidential directive to leave this and many other international organizations.
There is a discontinuity between the desire of the current administration to be a great #MaritimeNation and the self-imposed removal from this important maritime organisation.
Governors and Governor’s representatives from 19 ReCAAP Contracting Parties, and External Participants from 15 partner organisations (from international organisations, shipping associations, academia and maritime stakeholders) and two States participated in the Open Session of the 20th Governing Council Meeting.
Participants were briefed on ReCAAP ISC’s key activities in 2025 and shared the latest situation of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia and other regions. The partner organisations acknowledged the Centre’s persistent efforts in making seas in Asia safe and secure. Discussions also focused on measures to reduce incidents in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS), including strengthening vigilance, enhancing information sharing, and reinforcing coordinated responses among relevant authorities and maritime stakeholders.

#SGBudget2026: The RSAF will acquire three Gulfstream G550-Maritime Surveillance Aircraft to provide better early warning of maritime threats. It will complement the Boeing P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft as part of Singapore’s maritime security surveillance network.

In one of his first public appearances since confirmation, the 79th Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable John C. Phelan, took the stage and addressed attendees about his vision for the Department of the Navy. Secretary Phelan shared his priorities for the Department, including ways to revitalize U.S. shipbuilding, strengthen warfighting culture and recruit America’s best and brightest, along with taking questions from the crowd.
