At the new bus stand in #Gadag, a #KKRTC bus driver from the #Raichur division’s #Maski depot allegedly drove at high speed and ran over three women passengers.
In this horrific incident, Shantavva Siddappa Korthi from Sunaga village suffered severe injuries; her leg was severed, and she also sustained serious back injuries. She has been admitted to SDM Hospital in #Dharwad for further treatment.

Maski is not a side note in Indian history — it is a 6,000‑year civilisational archive in stone
Maski is one of India’s most extraordinary heritage landscapes — yet it continues to be overlooked and under-protected.
Where else, in a single site, can you stand amid Neolithic settlements, Iron Age cultural layers, and early-historic inscriptions, all within walking distance?
Maski’s Ashokan edict is the first to reveal the emperor’s personal name “अशोक Ashoka,” which is a cornerstone in Indian epigraphy.
Maski holds something even rarer — an inscription recording one of the ancient and uncommon coalitions between the Cholas, Pandyas, and Cheras, with the royal emblems of all three dynasties carved together on one stone with Kalyani Chalukyas.
Recent excavations have confirmed a 4,000‑year‑old settlement near Mallikarjuna Hill and Anjaneya Swamy Temple, showing unbroken depth of habitation.
Such a convergence is almost unheard of in peninsular history.
Yet this priceless inscription — a national treasure — is now deteriorating rapidly due to rain exposure, wind erosion, vegetation growth, and human interference. So does the Neolithic Rock Paintings and Iron age sites.
Every monsoon season is eating away at a piece of our shared memory.
Maski deserves the same priority, respect, and conservation attention as any world-class archaeological zone in #IncredibleIndia.
Its cultural depth is not less than the Ashokan inscription — in many ways, it reveals an even broader and older civilisational tapestry.
The entire Maski region needs urgent care, scientific conservation, proper signage, and development as a major heritage nucleus.
India is blessed to have a site like this — and we must not lose it.
What is needed now:
(1) immediate protective shelters over key inscriptions and rock art, (2) systematic scientific conservation of the rare coalition inscription and Rock Arts, (3) controlled access and fencing around fragile Neolithic/Iron Age mounds, and (4) an integrated heritage management plan for the whole Maski landscape.
Hope the focus shifts soon. Maski has the potential to stand among the greatest heritage centres of our country.
