Building Brave, Rights-First Policing 🌍✨ Matuga and Msambweni Officers Level Up!
From December 2–4, 2025, the #KujengaAmaniProject delivered energetic back-to-back HRBA follow-up trainings in #Matuga and #Msambweni Sub-Counties. @Mwarpkenya engaged officers from units including Traffic, Community Policing, Gender Desk, Roadblock Operations, and DCI in practical, two-day sessions in both sub-counties.
These trainings moved away from lecture-style learning and focused on real-life scenarios, #group work, and #action planning. A key highlight was the strong alignment between officers’ identified security concerns, #unemployment, #gangs, substance #abuse, and #radicalization, and the issues raised in #youth policy briefs. This validation strengthened conversations on joint solutions and youth–police collaboration.
The Msambweni session received a major boost with remarks from the incoming Kwale County Commissioner, Mr. Robert Rotich, who emphasized that “humane policing is the only way to rebuild trust.” @NCIC_Kenya Director Mr. Killian Nyambu also made a surprise visit, engaging officers on their critical role ahead of the electioneering period and reaffirming NCIC’s partnership with MWARP.
Across both sessions, officers practiced #gender-sensitive policing, de-escalation, and #community engagement strategies, and developed individual and unit action plans supported by peer #accountability and clear success #indicators. With ongoing support from MWARP, NCIC, and county leadership, #officers left ready to put #HRBA principles into action and strengthen #trust with communities.

@Mwarpkenya , under the #KujengaAmaniProject, conducted a follow-up Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to Peacebuilding training with law enforcement officers from #Matuga Sub-County, Kwale County.
The training brought together officers from both the national administration and county government, creating a space to jointly analyze community security challenges through an HRBA lens.
One of the most important highlights was the meaningful engagement between #officers and #YoungPeople who presented the #Kwale_County_Youth_Policy_Brief, developed earlier during the youth caravan in #Matuga Sub-County.
Yesterday marked the second and final day of the training, where officers developed actionable commitments for strengthening police–community collaboration. Moving forward, the officers leave the sessions better informed about Human Rights and well-equipped with #HRBA principles to support #peacebuilding efforts within their jurisdictions.
Together, we continue shaping inclusive and sustainable security structures in Kwale County.

This week, @Mwarpkenya , under the #KujengaAmaniProject, is conducting a follow-up Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to #peacebuilding training with law enforcement officers from #Matuga Sub-County, Kwale County.
The training brings together #officers from diverse units across both the #national administration and #county government, providing a platform to jointly analyze community #security challenges through an HRBA lens.
A remarkable moment emerged when officers independently identified community #concerns that aligned 70% with findings from the youth-led policy briefs developed during our earlier community engagement forums. This convergence underscores the growing synergy between #youth voices and security actors.
Throughout the sessions, facilitators from MWARP and the @NCIC_Kenya covered key areas including:

✔️ Conflict resolution
✔️ Community engagement strategies
✔️ The Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) framework

Our peacebuilding journey under the #KujengaAmaniProject continues to gain ground across #Mombasa and #Kwale Counties. Through #Peace and #Dialogue Caravans in #Matuga and #Msambweni, and powerful intergenerational forums, a pressing issue has come to light — the growing rift between #law enforcement officers and #youngpeople.
🚨 Youth #voices reveal rising tensions and mutual #mistrust, with each side perceiving the other as the aggressor. This dynamic threatens the very foundation of community #safety and #peaceful coexistence.
💡 In response, we launched a #Human_Rights_Based_Approach (HRBA) to Peacebuilding Training tailored specifically for law enforcement officers at both #national and #county levels.

Over the past week, through the #KujengaAmaniProject, young people from #Matuga and #Msambweni Sub Counties came together with #security actors, #religious leaders, #women leaders, and #local administrators in a powerful series of #peace dialogues aimed at building sustainable solutions to #violence in our communities.

🔹 The critical role of local leadership in fostering peace
🔹 Collaborative, community-led strategies for long-term change
