Remember that #MefenamicAcid is found in other medicines as well.
The drug is sold under various brand names that include Meftal, Mefkind P, Ponstan, Mefanorm, and Ibuclin P, among others. These cannot be sold without prescriptions.
So what is the problem here?
Problem isn’t with the medicine. A lot of people asked me if Paediatric Meftal Spas should not be given to kids?
I welcome doctors on my timeline to come in on this. But here are my two cents
Meftal Spas overuse by women in periods is the real concern here. There is not a problem with the medicine but with the problem with women overdosing on it.
With meftal spas in kids, I don’t think we tend to overdose kids. We mostly check and double check with the doctors on the dosage regimen
Meftal spas taken by women also is okay, as long as:
They are not popping one in every 2-3 hours
They can consume it occasionally on an SOS basis.
They must consult a doctor is they are doing it
Not buy it Over The Counter and definitely not put up with severe period pain
How many times have you popped meftal spas while on your period? Not just meftal spas, over use of drugs available over the counter is tremendously dangerous
@sankha_shubhra Let us also sight, what will be replacing #MefenamicAcid in the market; that's what the Pharma companies are going to be promoting.

Finally, it is prudent to not panic, understand dos and Don’ts from your paediatician, give medicines only when needed. I would encourage parents to have a conversation about safety and adverse effects of medicines prescribed, including #MefenamicAcid
Is it safe to use #MefenamicAcid syrup in children ?
There is no valid published safety data in children for repeated use for fevers in kids. Unlike in India, it is never used to treat fevers in kids in the west.
We need to keep the recent IPC warning in mind too.
