During #MedicalLaboratoryProfessionalsWeek we thank & recognize #medicalLaboratoryProfessionals & acknowledge their hard work. They play a vital role to ensure accurate testing for correct diagnosis & treatment of #COVID19. #healthcareheroes #LabWeek2020 #MLPW2020

For @simonbchen, a clinically crucial fungi (but one that often has a very recognizable feature), Fusarium spp. that often have these canoe-shaped macroconidia (BUT some species/isolates may only make microconidia, though this is atypical)

Pathology resident and journalist @DrAngelaBaldwin shared her fantastic article from early April about the crucial role of lab professionals in this #COVID19 pandemic. This quote in particular... :

For two other lab professionals at Colorado Children's, @darcyavelasquez and @CTMylius (along w/ @andreaprinzi & @SJLovesMicro) here's a horrible rainbow of different Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates, all from the same CF patient.

For @clememmo (highlighting the international group of lab professionals) here is a picture of the H and the E of the fastidious Gram negative HACEK group. Both grew from an oral abscess

To go along with the Sporothrix picture above, microbiologist @sheltigurl has this awesome example of Histoplasma capsulatum (from tissue!).
These big knobby structures are classified as "tuberculate macroconidia" #LabWeek2020 #VirtualLabWeek #MLPW2020 https://t.co/wtTMtFW9vJ
@richdavisphd One of my fungus finds! Histoplasma capsulatum in a tissue culture. (I think it was a wrist and the ID was flabbergasted. Lol)
Also, Happy Birthday!!!

For medical lab scientist @sjbenson101, here's my best ever picture of a Sporothrix schenckii ("rosettes from a rose!"). This was done with slide culture which tends to preserve the structures better!

Microbiology lab director @nmoore07 shares LOTS of educational microbiology lab materials, pictures and vignettes (using the #MicroRounds hashtag).
For Nick, here's a teaching slide I put together comparing S. lugdunensis and S. aureus #LabWeek2020 #VirtualLabWeek #MLPW2020

Infectious disease doc & medical micro fellow @Ahmed_HBabiker helped start and runs the amazing @Emory_MedMicro with @colleenkraftmd for clinical/lab education on infectious organisms.
Here's a rare but amazing fungi: Talaromyces marneffei #LabWeek2020 #VirtualLabWeek #MLPW2020

Dr. Hermelin @HermelinMD is a great social media laboratory advocate and educator.
Pic is from the micro lab, but no pathogens here. Malaria smear has no malaria, but shows distorted RBCs: this patient has diagnosed sickle cell anemia #LabWeek2020 #VirtualLabWeek #MLPW2020

Instead of my own picture, here's a gorgeous gif of metallic Pseudomonas aeruginosa from @kawabungaaaa

It's Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize all of our alumni working on the front lines of COVID-19. In @txst_news, Wade Winchell (B.S. '14) shares his experiences as a lab director in NYC: https://t.co/qcW8Yg1DFQ

Rather than share one of my pictures, I'll just highlight this awesome one from clinical microbiologist @falcon94. Pigmented Serratia marcescens will never get old!

@richdavisphd Happy birthday! I give to YOU a pretty Serratia marcescens❗

So happy to be highlighting so many medical laboratory scientists and I'm a sucker for microbiology puns so really appreciating @antijenic's ("antigenic") handle.

Another MLS here on twitter is @thejer619.
Here is a Bacillus subtilis which should stain Gram positive but (as can happen with Bacillus) it can easily decolorize and look Gram negative (pink). But this one is producing visible spores.

Another MLS student is @NolenScuba
One of the best looking, worst smelling (IMO) Gram negatives is Proteus which can, but doesn't always, swarm over plates when it grows in culture.
