The #MSSS2020 has come to a close for another year. We finished with a discussion amongst the participants about what it is like being an astronomy student in the era of COVID19, and announcing the student talk prizes, which I list below:
Our last talk for the day at #MSSS2020. Matthew Sampson (@Space_Boy_Matt), undergraduate from @QUTSciEng, is talking to us about new model fitting techniques involving information geometry for speeding up the convergence of the fits.
Coming up to the final few student talks for #MSSS2020. We have ANU undergraduate, Sophia Ridolfo, presenting some awesome research work on Star-forming HII Regions of TYPHOON Galaxy.
After a great morning session and virtual coffee room discussion, we now have invited speaker, Dr. @FiPanther, from @ARC_OzGRav, @UWAresearch, talking to us about the challenges related to transitioning through academia (with #MasterChef analogies 🥄🍽🍜🍱🍡). #MSSS2020

Next up for the morning session (very early morning for WA folks!!) is Manoj Kovalam from @ARC_OzGRav, @UWAresearch, talking to us about real-time gravity wave detection. #MSSS2020
We are starting day 2 of #MSSS2020 with undergraduate astronomy student, Thalia Greinke, speak to us about anthropomorphism of space hardware in astrophysics.
Last talk of the day for #MSSS2020. We heard from about Radhika Ac’s ANU masters project. Radhika shared some excellent science on the (very) low-Mach, small-scale dynamo, with applications for primordial magnetic fields.
Next up is Patrick Armstrong, PhD student at ANU. Patrick is talking to us about Supernova's Next Top Model (i.e. how to model supernova lightcurves) #MSSS2020
Time for Dr @amitseta90’s talk, giving us a diagrammatic perspective of General Relativity — our second invited talk for the day at the #MSSS2020
Matthew Alger (@IndecisiveMatt) absolutely nailing the #MSSS2020 theme this year (Reality TV) giving a very convincing talk on why we need Data-Driven Reality TV using neural networks to generate participants, among many other improvement strategies.

Neco Kriel (@AstroKriel) from @QUTSciEng is giving a talk on the magnetic amplification scale in the fluctuation dynamo, and providing a wonderful summary of some turbulence theory #MSSS2020
Now it’s 1st year PhD student, Miguel Angel González Bolívar, from @Macquarie_Uni, speaking all about common envelope simulations in the thermal pulse regime #MSSS2020
