Dictatorial and racist Mississippi leaders have long intentionally driven smart natives out with inhumane policies and ugly name-calling of anyone not obediently falling in line. We call our version of fascism #MSBrainDrain. Meaningless votes due to electoral college don’t help.

Mississippi status quo continually shoots self/state in the foot because they don't know how to share power or even listen respectfully to others with different experiences.

1. Re #MSBrainDrain, I am old and tough enough to stand up to those who’ve tried to bully me out of Mississippi for 20 years (see attempts just since Friday below). But I understand why many can’t.
Key: creating spaces that invite native Mississippians to train and hone talents.
Yes, every time they attack me (and they have for 20 years of @jxnfreepress history in vile and disgusting and silly ways), please support and follow our publications @msfreepress and @jxnfreepress. It’s the best response and way to keep real journalism flowing in Mississippi.
@RevelsHiram @DonnerKay I moved to Dallas in 2006. My mother always told us to leave MS as the opportunities are scarce.
Re #MSBrainDrain: We cannot understate how often *women* leave Mississippi due to bullying and misogyny (I did originally), or fear of it. And how many women have told me privately they fear stating opinions because how they see how men react to me for speaking out.
