Fix streaming, fix the music industry - support the Living Wage for Musicians Act #MakeStreamingPay
Streaming remains the rhythm of our lives, driving 84% of total revenue for the fifth straight year, with paid subscriptions leading the way. 🔗: https://t.co/hYFcC8DDHz #RIAAMusicData

Spotify uses its billions in resources to fight every effort at improving artist payments - we need govt mandated direct royalties for artists from streaming to bypass all the bullshit and #MakeStreamingPay
Spotify Blasts MLC’s Audiobook Royalties Lawsuit As ‘Nonsensical’ and ‘Wasteful’ https://t.co/023UUnjAry
We have a solution - one that embraces the technology of streaming but not the corporate control over it. Join our movement working to pass the Living Wage for Musicians Act #makestreamingpay https://t.co/Fzj4a9jHR2
“Spotify does not seem to care about your relationship to ‘your’ music anymore,” @chaykak writes. “For long-term users, this has felt like a slow-motion bait and switch.” https://t.co/BRE3JfV2WE
Thank you @MorePerfectUS for laying out the facts so clearly!! Music workers who feels this, come join our efforts at @UMAW_ to pass the Living Wage for Musicians Act and #MakeStreamingPay https://t.co/Fzj4a9jHR2
NEW: Spotify basically functions like a pyramid scheme.
70% of artists make almost nothing. 30% make barely minimum wage. Only the top fraction of a percent of artists are making money — along with Spotify execs of course.
It’s killing the music industry.

We have to get streaming money to the mass of artists at the base of this industry, cause that’s where innovation comes from - it’s not going to come from the c-suites and the handful of pop stars soaking up all the cash from the top of the pyramid #MakeStreamingPay
Another way to say this: can’t we get music right, at least??? We haven’t yet, not by a long shot, which is why you should support Tom’s #BrokenRecord campaign in the UK, and #MakeStreamingPay in the US from @UMAW_
One of the reasons I fight so hard for creator/musicmaker rights is because it’s so symbolic of where we’ve gone wrong.
If we can’t get global companies with multi-billion-dollar profits (and huge technological capabilities) to act responsibly within our regulatory framework, I don’t hold out much hope for progress elsewhere.

Ek has - again - revealed the true calculation behind streaming platforms. Spotify will never negotiate with recording artists because they don’t believe we are crucial to their business. This is why we need govt regulation to #MakeStreamingPay https://t.co/Fzj4a9jHR2

The music industry is complex, sure, but it’s really not a puzzle what happens when recorded music is devalued to $0.0030 a stream #makestreamingpay
The Living Wage for Musicians Act would create a brand new royalty that would go directly to artists (without passing through labels etc), on top of the royalties they already receive from DSPs. #MakeStreamingPay

@M4Npodcast @volumecontrol10 @Saxonius Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before, is one response we’ve received from (sympathetic) professionals in the industry. And there’s a simple answer - it’s cause NO ONE EVER ASKED THE ARTISTS BEFORE. Join us and #MakeStreamingPay https://t.co/Fzj4a9ja1u
Ive been a cultural worker for the last 15 years & am about to lose monetization on 2/3 of my Spotify catalog no fault of my own...this forced comparison is weak as hell. If people are streaming your stuff why are we denied any compensation. This is wage theft.

Spotify wants to identify working musicians who aren’t benefitting from their model of streaming as amateurs. We’re not amateurs, we are working professionals who are not being paid fairly for our streams #MakeStreamingPay

Streaming services have devalued music. the entire infrastructure is crumbling. Engineers, album artists, studio musicians: they're all losing work. This is hurting real workers. I'm so grateful for my comrades @UMAW_ and that @RashidaTlaib is working with us to #makestreamingpay
It takes more than 800,000 streams per month to make the equivalent of a $15/hour job, and the vast majority of music artists on platforms like Spotify never get to that number. I introduced the Living Wage for Musicians Act to fight for the fair pay that musicians deserve.
