Yesterday, students in the Cooperative Master's Program - Mathematical Epidemiology stream, engaged with a delegation from the @UofT & @UofT_dlsph — our main partner in the #MathEpi program, in a networking session where they exchanged of ideas to advance public health research.
Thanks to Jules Tchatchueng from Centre Pasteur du Cameroun, Linda Esso from @MinsanteCMR & Daniel Tcheutia from @AimsCmr for introducing a diversified perspective from Cameroon into the preparations of the #MathEpi Program. Pan-Africanism is one of our core values at @AIMS_Next.
We would also like to thank Gloria Shirima (@GloriaSalome_) from @ifakarahealth and @SwissTPH for her insightful presentations, comments, questions and contributions towards the development of the #MathEpi Program. The workshop was a success because the continent came together.
The MaModAfrica Consortium was represented by a team from Mozambique at the #MathEpi Workshop. Thank you, Vasco Américo Sambo and Teresa Machai from @Manhica_CISM for honouring the invite. Your expertise significantly contributed to the discussions.

Day 1 of the #MathEpi workshop is a success because of the support from our partners; @RwandaHealth, @MinsanteCMR, the African Higher Education Health Collaborative, @UofT, @AmrefUniversity, @MastercardFdn, and MaModAfrica consortium - @SwissTPH & Manhiça Health Research Center.
#MathEpi being an @AIMS_Next Global Network program, we are happy to receive contributions from Academic Directors from different AIMS centres, i.e., @AIMS_Rwanda, @AIMS_Senegal1, @AimsCmr, and a PhD Student from @AIMSGhana.

#HappeningNow: To achieve its objectives, the #MathEpi workshop has employed presentations, plenaries & group discussions on identified focal areas, for example, the #objectives of the program, target students, entry requirements, course delivery, quality control, skills, etc
The #MathEpi workshop has brought together stakeholders in the #healthsector & academia within Africa & beyond. For example, representatives from @AIMS_Next Centres, @UofT, @ScienceTechRw, Ministry of Health-Cameroon & leading experts in applying mathematics & AI in epidemiology.
Among the participants of the #MathEpi Workshop is Prof. Jude Kong, the Director of the AI and Mathematical Modeling lab (AIMMlab) at @UofT_dlsph, Director of @theACADIC & @Ai4Pep & the Regional Node Liaison to the steering committee of the Canadian Black Scientist Network.
We are grateful to Sophie Diarra for leading the Needs Assessment Study for #MathEpi & sharing the findings. From the results, informants agree that capacity needs to be built in Africa to tackle our #epidemiological problems, using modelling as a tool to inform decision-making.
The #MathEpi workshop was officially opened with remarks from Dr. @MutimuraEugene, the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) who highlighted the need for skilled professionals who can use #mathematicalmodels to
inform #publichealth policies

Prof. Wilfred Ndifon, Centre President of @AIMS_RIC gave an overview of the AIMS Cooperative Master’s in #MathEpi Program and the role of Math Epi in Africa today. “We are #analyzing the findings of an extensive study conducted in collaboration with @UofT_dlsph”, he added.
