@BridgetNBrina This is the Uganda #MeToo moment! Thank you for speaking out against the sex predator #KarimHirji! These allegations must be investigated although I don’t have confidence in the @PolicUg! Let us bring pressure to bear on the relevant govt agencies! #Justice4DVictims! #MeTooUg
I’ve been thinking a lot about the #UgandaNGOsExhibition and all the ways online activism has grown over the years on #UOT. Before the exhibitions of potholes, health centers, and now NGOs, there was #MeTooUg #EndRapeinUG #WomensLivesMatter #JusticeForSamantha and on and on.
Long before the current exhibitions, incl. #UgandaNGOsExhibition as we welcomed the year 2020, young women in Uganda exhibited sexual predators. We woke up to thousands of reports here and the city was shaking.

“When we speak we are afraid
our words will not be heard
nor welcomed
but when we are silent
we are still afraid.
So it is better to speak
remembering
we were never meant to survive.”

Thread 🧵: Responsible Reporting
The media has a responsibility to report violence against women. However, occasionally we witness media outlets downplay or romanticize instances of violence, enabling the silencing and harassment of victims.
#16DaysofActivism2022

If prominent journalists and politicians are not taken seriously when making claims of harassment, imagine the silencing and victim blaming that occurs in rural and impoverished settings where women are already disempowered in multiple ways.

When we look at the case of Hon Sylvia Rwabwogo, many people interpreted the stalking she was experiencing as a form of courtship and the messages sent to her as love messages.

Bringing back this post I shared early last year during #metooug to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Violence and harassment in the workplace disproportionately affects women and LGBT persons. We are often made to re-live our traumatic experiences because reformatory process just do not centre our humanity.

I'm so happy that Samantha Mwesigye's case is finally going to trial. May she get the justice she deserves! #MeTooUg
This was the same man that started #MeTooUg at the beginning of the year. He was loud about how he is indeed and a rapist and nothing can be done to him.
Cancel culture when it’s a fav :
@BeingEdna @KPatu_ @_tracyrubondo 1. Being loud, relentless twitter feminists is the first way that we are speaking against the injustices that we’re facing as women in Uganda. Citing #MeTooUg as a good example. Seeing as the institution have failed to give us the justice we seek or even...

@jabulilesigola Written a bit.
1. Earlier this year during #MetooUg I wrote on the role of language in perpetuating rape culture.

It remains sexual harassment even when she is your employee, because she appeared in the same photo with you and because you attended functions with her.
#MeTooUg
You will realize that whenever a woman comes out to speak , many people take her for granted throwing useless questions only to make the oppressor's act like victims.

The worst about sexual harassment in Uganda is that no one listens to women. #MetooUg
In honor of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAM), @amwaafrika stands with survivors of sexual violence in demanding justice and navigating the path to healing. You are not alone.

Speaking of Language.
Earlier this year during the #MetooUg
I wrote a blog post on how the language we use to talk about Sexual harassment perpetuates Rape Culture and further fuels the culture of silence
