The #Chinese #PLA #medicaltrain arrived in #Laos on the morning of Tuesday after passing through the friendship tunnel linking the two countries. This was the first cross-border transport of a PLA medical train since the opening of the #ChinaLaosRailway.

Between March 31 and June 6, MSF's #MedicalTrain has transported +600 patients – half with war-related injuries: 73% bomb blasts, 20% shrapnel and gunshots. 10% have lost one or more limbs.

Over 40 percent of the war-wounded on the #medicaltrain have been elderly people and children with blast wounds, traumatic amputations, shrapnel and gunshot wounds.

🚉Constant evacuation with more and technically equipped #MedicalTrain now occupy an important part of our activities in #Ukraine.
One important detail about all our #MedicalTrain referrals: we also bring family members, so they are with their close ones.
“After the first referral we have been able to identify a few technical things that need to be improved, but the needs do not stop so we immediately returned east on the smaller #medicaltrain to do our next medical evacuation.”
“We are very pleased to be able to bring this larger and more medicalised train into service to assist overwhelmed hospitals in the east,” says Marie Burton, the coordinator of @MSF #medicaltrain.
The #MedicalTrain has a dedicated carriage to generate oxygen for use in the intensive care carriage, and can generate its own electricity to be able to manage all the medical devices needed to monitor the patients’ health status and to power the technical medical apparatus.
The @MSF #MedicalTrain also has five-bed Intensive Care Unit carriage, intended to take more medically vulnerable patients and to be able to increase the level of medical care should any of the patients’ condition deteriorate during the long train journey to hospitals in the west
The new #MedicalTrain has eight carriages at its core, four more than the previous one, and they include capacity for 16 patients needing hospital-level care, around 20 (or potentially more) patients needing a lower level of care.
