#meshredress #government it’s now well into October recess is finished - we reasonably expect a decent response
🔶The silence, on the eve of Parliament breaking for summer recess, was the latest chapter in decades of battles for candour and accountability that have left thousands of mesh-injured women in permanent pain, without proper care, financially ruined, and too often suicidal.

🚨Today was the deadline set by Patient Safety Commissioner Prof Henrietta Hughes. It didn’t happen.
🔶She used her statutory powers to ask the Government for specific information on the Hughes Report redress process, not a final yes/no decision on compensation.
🔶She requested details on internal & cross-government discussions, actions taken so far, outstanding steps before Ministers can decide on redress, and a clear timetable for a full response.
🔶On 6 July, in answer to a Parliamentary question, the Department of Health & Social Care stated they would “provide any information required to support a timely response.”
🔶 Sadly as of this evening the actual deadline, no information has been published.
🔶This silence, on the eve of Parliament breaking for summer recess, is the latest chapter in decades of battles for candour and accountability that have left thousands of mesh-injured women in permanent pain, without proper care, financially ruined, and too often suicidal.
🔶We have shown the Government already runs a structured, tariff-based, non-adversarial system for complex pelvic trauma (the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme).
🔶 “Complexity” is not the barrier.
🚨Patients deserve transparency. Today proved nothing has changed.

Andy Burnham said Hillsborough Law opens the door to justice for mesh and sodium valproate victims
In 2014 he called #MeshInjuries “shocking” & “heart-breaking”
We have all waited far too long
Redress for all now

Behind every pelvic mesh case number in every report on this subject is a life that was interrupted mid-sentence, a career, a marriage, a role as a mother or a professionall or simply as someone capable and well.
Many of us have spent years since not just in pain, but in the exhausting, undignified work of trying to be believed, of chasing our own medical records, of discovering, sometimes far too late, that we were not told the whole truth about our own bodies.

The Cumberlege Review is now 6 years old and must not be kicked further into the long grass
#meshredress #publicinquiry #patientsafety

1/2 💰 While pharma disclosed £929 million in payments to the UK health sector last year via #DisclosureUK, the medical device industry (including mesh makers) still operates in secrecy. No equivalent mandatory public register exists.
Baroness Cumberlege’s landmark #FirstDoNoHarm review (IMMDS) exposed exactly how this lack of transparency fuels harm:
The review specifically warned about conflicts of interest from undisclosed industry payments to doctors, hospitals, teaching institutions and researchers. It recommended mandatory reporting by both pharmaceutical AND medical device companies of all payments and benefits in kind — similar to the US Physician Payments Sunshine Act — and expanding the GMC register to include doctors’ financial interests

Quick searches and AI answers still come up with ‘mesh is inert’
It is NOT inert as the recent peer reviews studies show
#meshredress #longtermharm
For nearly two decades, the government and the medical establishment have resisted financial redress by claiming that mesh complications are simply an unfortunate, "inherent risk" of surgery. For just as long, thousands of women have detailed how catastrophically ill this material has made them, only to be systematically disbelieved, dismissed as hysterical, or told their chronic pain was psychological.
The historical government stance was built entirely on outdated medical opinion. Today, new and irrefutable peer-reviewed science proves that the women were right all along. This is no longer a debate about surgical risk; it is a matter of systemic, material toxicity and institutional concealment.

@SusanMorgan19 None after a 5 year wait. Also, I suspect #MeshRedress won't even reimburse patients for out of pocket expenses, let alone compensate them for damage done to several of their organs, autoimmune disease and the resultant life changing disabilities they've been left with.

Mesh Injury Is A Hidden Disability
It's Actually Really Not Funny
But I Need You To Read

Our members have successfully emailed their MPs many of whom are now supporting the Hughes Report campaign for financial redress for pelvic #mesh injured women @PSCommissioner

@PSCommissioner @HSJptsafety 7 years ago I contacted my MP @DerekThomasUK about my pelvic mesh injuries. He spoke in parliament about the issues I and other mesh injured ladies face. Why haven’t the government carried out all the recommendations in the review by @JuliaCumberlege #meshredress
@PSCommissioner & hope for #meshredress?
Can Dr Hughes succeed in this role where #CumberlegeReview has proven powerless? Just how independent was the #IMMDS Review? @FdnhLtd @AnnaCCampaigns @HSJnews @HSJptsafety @miJemima @MeshUKCT @MeshiesU @Paula_Goss
Why commission an independent review and not accept the recommendations in full? Nearly half of all correspondence I’ve received is from women still suffering from pelvic mesh implants. I will address this tomorrow at the Patient Safety Congress @HSJptsafety #meshredress
