Let’s decode the paradox.
⚡ CORE CONCEPT

That statement isn't entirely accurate. You can directly observe #microcirculation in areas with accessible, transparent tissues, such as the conjunctiva and retina in the eye, the sublingual mucosa, and the skin (nail folds and beds), using specialized devices like vital microscopes, which reveal tiny #capillaries and red blood cell flow, offering a window into systemic vascular health.
This is the basis of one of the most important complementary examinations in #Rheumatology: Nailfold video-#capillaroscopy (NVC). This test allows for the evaluation of the size, morphology, and density of the capillaries in the nail fold, and in some cases, it is even possible to observe the flow of the red blood cell column along the capillary loops.
NVC constitutes a non-invasive biomarker to evaluate #Raynaud's phenomenon, differentiate between primary and secondary, and diagnose early #autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma, dermatomyositis, lupus, and MCTD, detecting microcirculatory changes long before clinical symptoms, predicting organ involvement and evaluating the response to treatment.
