This’s GS from BC of ptn with IE shows gram positive cocci in chains. No growth was on BA and chocl ID in progress. This makes me think about nutritionally variant Strep?! Waiting for Dr @richdavisphd comment as he might have different opinion🙏 #MicroRound.

1/9 @rabihmgeha shared a fantastic approach to positive BCx! I use a similar schema, but add ‘Questions to ask the lab/what to do next?’ since #ID usually doesn’t get the ‘critical result’ call from micro, and I want to empower those who do with actionable knowledge.

#MicroRound (Day 424): "We coli." Two E. coli from a urine. Q: If there are multiple "gram neg rods" how can you tell them apart? A: Subtle (or obvious) colony morphology diff. help you pick apart 2 or even 3 types of the same species from a sample. #ASMClinMicro #IDMedEd
