Gutted to see an amazing scrubby, species rich field on the edge of Moneygal bog SAC has been levelled and drains dug through metres of deep peat! Should this really be allowed next to a designated site in this day & age? ⁦@daera_ni⁩ #moneygal

Each time we do this work I realise that every bog is different, every drain is different, every dam is different! Moneygal suffered a huge bog burst over 100yrs ago making it even more complex! ⁦@UlsterWildlife⁩ ⁦@theCANNproject⁩ #moneygal #bog #peatlands

With these drains blocked the water table will rise and sphagnum will build up further in these pools and help Moneygal Bog move back towards actively forming peat again! ⁦@theCANNproject⁩ ⁦@UlsterWildlife⁩ ⁦@IUCNpeat⁩ #peatlands #moneygal #bog

Blue skies in between the hail storms out on Moneygal yesterday, the wind would have cut you in half though! About 100 peat dams in so far and a couple hundred more to go! ⁦@theCANNproject⁩ ⁦@UlsterWildlife⁩ #peatlandrestoration #peatlands #moneygal
