#Russia - I’m receiving concerning information on the potential liquidation of NGO #MoscowHelsinkiGroup for minor violations. I remind authorities that involuntary dissolution should be a sanction of last resort when necessary, and proportionate in response to serious crimes.
The intended dissolution of the #MoscowHelsinkiGroup would be yet another attempt by the Russian authorities to silence human rights defenders and yet another proof of the ever-deteriorating human rights situation in Russia. This trend must stop immediately.
Russia's Justice Ministry has requested the dissolution of the Moscow Helsinki Group, Russia's oldest human rights org, for conducting activities like trial monitoring outside the region where it's registered—apparently an "irreparable" breach of the law.
