Q. Simply having a #GDP centric approach is outdated. Time has come to adopt a #humancentric vision of #progress. Critically evaluate the statement in the #global context with special emphasis on #India.
Ans. GDP, or Gross Domestic Product, is a measure of the total value of goods and services produced in a country in a given year. It is a useful tool for tracking economic growth, but it does not tell the whole story. GDP does not take into account factors such as #inequality, #environmentaldegradation, or #socialwellbeing.
In recent years, there has been a growing movement to adopt a more human-centric vision of progress. This means looking beyond GDP to measure the well-being of a country's citizens. There are a number of different metrics that can be used to measure human well-being, such as #lifeexpectancy, #educationlevels, and access to #healthcare.
India is a good example of a country that is moving towards a more human-centric vision of progress. The Indian government has recently launched a number of initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of its citizens, such as the #PradhanMantriJanDhanYojana (#PMJDY), which aims to provide financial services to the poor, and the #SwachhBharatAbhiyan (Clean India Mission), which aims to make India a cleaner country.
There are a number of reasons why it is important to adopt a human-centric vision of progress.
👉First, it is important to ensure that economic growth is inclusive and that everyone benefits from it.
👉Second, it is important to protect the environment and ensure that future generations have a healthy planet to live on.
👉Third, it is important to promote social well-being and ensure that everyone has access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
The move towards a more human-centric vision of progress is a positive one. It is important to remember that GDP is not the only measure of a country's success. By focusing on the well-being of its citizens, India can achieve true progress.
Here are some specific examples of how India is moving towards a more human-centric vision of progress:
👉The PMJDY has provided over 400 million bank accounts to the poor, giving them access to financial services for the first time.
👉The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has helped to clean up millions of toilets and improve sanitation in India.
👉The government has also launched a number of initiatives to improve education and healthcare, such as the #SarvaShikshaAbhiyan (Education for All Mission) and the #PradhanMantriJanArogyaYojana (National Health Protection Scheme).
These are just a few examples of how India is moving towards a more human-centric vision of progress. There is still much work to be done, but India is on the right track.

While #GDP is a widely used benchmark to measure the size and growth of an economy, it has limitations.
By #movingbeyondGDP, we can measure what we truly value, re-evaluate how we distribute resources, and commit to real change.
