We won’t stand by while the President works to deny food to hungry children, families and seniors The state loaded federal SNAP food benefits to eligible New Mexicans’ EBT cards following an initial Rhode Island federal court order and subsequent guidance from the USDA. Eligible New Mexicans will see food benefits on their EBT cards on their regular issuance date. While the Supreme Court later stayed that order, New Mexico families already had full access to 100% of their full November benefits. Families can use the funds loaded on EBT cards. Approximately 460,000 New Mexicans rely on SNAP each month for food assistance. The program also generates economic activity, producing up to $1.80 in local economic benefits for every SNAP dollar spent. The second special legislative session is moving forward on Monday because Republicans in Congress have not ended this needless federal government shutdown. We cannot leave New Mexicans at the mercy of federal dysfunction. This special session will give us the tools to feed families if Republicans in Congress fail them again.
