One of CFB's most likeable progrums.
Elite talent producing state, in-state guys all over the roster, including their most high profile player.
What CFB is supposed to be. Rooting for them. #NFLCensus
3.7% of the world's population resides in a country they were not born in.
23.6% of World Cup players are representing a nation they were not born in ... w/ some of course being life-immigration stories, and not soccer-immigration.
The transfer portal is alive.

FIFA eligibility requirements should be more strict.

It is a shorter journey from Samoa to the NFL than it is from Vermont to the NFL.

@JoshPateCFB See the #SouthernDominanceDay & #NFLCensus hash tags for a chronicling of just how dominant this very special region of the country has completely dominated college football.

@RossDellenger See the #SouthernDominanceDay hash for a chronicle of the region's dominance.
Since 2006, when facing out-of-region opponents in NC-relevant postseason games, the Deep South is
33-6 SU
6-4 as underdog
9-3 as AP underdog
13-3 when AP gap = 1
23-3 when AP gap < 4
28-10 ATS
I am not on the "have to get Texas State to be in Texas" angle.
Texas is a huge state, and players largely only come from 3 parts of it. Houston metro, Dallas metro, and East/East-ish TX.
San Antonio is Boston-like in NFL production, and Austin is not much better.

The South Dakota to Washington football connection continues... #NFLCensus
Both of Michigan's top 10 picks are from the West. Ouch that hurts. #NFLCensus
I love the NFL Draft as a top down reminder on the single most determinant force that controls CFB ... severely inequitable geographic distribution of elite talent.
Ranges of players * to watch (good to bad)
South : 55-60%
North : 25-30%
West : 13-18%
* based on HS

Georgia is the nation's best combination of
- population size + demographics
- economics
- football
π shines in every #NFLCensus I've done.
I am proud of how many #StayAt4 tweets have aged well, but prouder of the declarations (pre-2021) of how many titles Georgia will win.
If youβre ever in GA on a Friday night, find a random HS game to attend and your mind will be blown!
I must warn to get there early though because those 6000 seat stadiums fill up quite quickly.
Made the tweet in June of 2019, 39 years after Georgia's last national title, a simple #NFLCensus + #SouthernDominanceDay play.
Georgia leads right now with 2.
If they win their 3rd in 4 years this year, they may have gone through all 4 of the northern bluebloods in the process
Georgia is going to win more national championships than any other program in the rest of my lifetime. I firmly believe that.
(I am 35 years old and in mediocre health fwiw)
My all-time record in charity bets 5-1-1.
Collectively, this has resulted in $1,950 to 6 charities.
Put me, the #StayAt4 / #BracketLuck / #MetricsConsensus / #ItJustMeansMore/ #NFLCensus / #SouthernDominanceDay hot takes guy, squarely in my place!
I want more offers.

Great stat from the latest @mikevorel article. Search reveals % to be drafted:
63% of 5 stars
22% of 4 stars

~ 28% of 4 or 5 stars
No other conclusion than "the previous generation of in-state blue chips has collectively been a significant bust."

Remarkable that both of the men now in charge of football in Seattle did not play at the level below where they are now leading, let alone at that level.
Jedd Fisch didn't play high school football.
Mike MacDonald didn't play college football.
What a sport this is.

Amite City, LA
Home to only 4,000 people, but one of them is Heisman winner DeVonta Smith.
Small Southern towns produce a ton of elite players & are the backbone of the nation's best conference.
In this part of the country, they don't come from just a few places.

Jackson, Mississippi
Capital of a perennial top 5 - if not top 2 - NFL producing state per capita.
Maybe one day they will enjoy the CFB success they deserve, but it is hard with 2 competing programs in the state. The state of Alabama has found a way.

Annual CFP geography thread
Local: Texas
Regional: Washington, Alabama
National: Michigan (slightly north lean)
Defense more local than offense.
Even w/ high-profile & impactful exceptions, modern CFB is still regional.
