Dear athletes, Too often, I see athletes holding back on social media because they’re worried about what others think—whether it’s their teammates, coaches, or even fans. But here’s the truth: the only person you’re hurting by playing it safe is YOU. Every day you hesitate, you’re missing out on the potential to grow your brand, build relationships, and, most importantly, make money. Remember, your social media presence is your platform to connect with brands, fans, and followers who want to see the real you. It’s an opportunity to showcase not only your athletic skills but also your personality, your interests, and your story. When you hold back because of fear of judgment, you’re limiting your own potential. So, take risks. Share the content that represents who you are—whether it’s behind-the-scenes moments, your training process, or your unique hobbies. The more authentic you are, the more likely you are to build a genuine connection with your audience, which can lead to valuable partnerships and NIL opportunities. Don’t let the fear of what others think cost you potential earnings or connections. Go for it, take chances, and use your platform to its fullest.

Take, for example, Egor Demin and Kasparas Jakucionis, two young stars who once played for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, and are now competing in the NCAA. Demin, now with BYU, is averaging 19 points, 9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game, while Jakucionis, at Illinois, is posting 11.5 points, 10 assists, and 6.5 rebounds. These two players could have had impactful roles in Europe, shaping the future of basketball there. #Illini #KasparasJakucionis #GoCougs #EgorDemin
