Met an old friend at #Niloufer this morning. Been a while since we met, so we were just talking about work, family and all the usual stuff. He’s been a #BRS guy for years. I know him well. Earlier, if anybody said anything against the party, he’d immediately start defending it. That’s just how he was. So somehow politics came up and I asked him, What’s happening? BRS people still look pretty confident. He just smiled and said, Bro, confidence on Twitter and confidence on the ground are two different things. I laughed and asked him what happened. He said, Nothing happened. That’s the problem. Then he said, These days, just show @KTRBRS some trends, some viral tweets and people praising him all day, and everybody around him thinks things are great. I told him, Come on, you’re saying this? You used to fight with people for @BRSparty . He said, That’s why I’m saying it. He said half the people around him are busy keeping him happy. Nobody wants to tell him things he may not like hearing. Bro, when was the last time you saw him really sitting with seniors? Meeting leaders properly? Listening to workers? Going and asking MLAs what’s happening in their areas? Everybody goes to him, but he doesn’t seem interested in hearing what people are actually saying. Then he laughed and said, If Twitter votes counted, we’d never lose an election. After that he became serious. He said, You know what’s sad? Nobody even talks openly inside the party now. Everyone is scared of being called negative. So people just clap, praise and move on. He said after 2023 he thought things would change. I thought there would be some serious discussions. I thought they’d sit with leaders, listen to workers and understand what went wrong. But honestly, I don’t think anybody even wants to hear bad news. Then he said something which actually made sense. Bro, parties don’t become weak because of the opposition. They become weak when leaders start believing only good news and stop listening to their own people. We finished our chai and left. And honestly, for the first time in all these years, I didn’t see him defending BRS. He just looked disappointed. Not angry. Just disappointed. And I don’t think he’s the only one feeling that way.
