Stuart Hazell begged on live television for his girlfriend's granddaughter, 12-year-old Tia Sharp, to come home. All the while she was dead in her family home after he had murdered her. On August 3, 2012, Tia Sharp disappeared after leaving her grandmother's home, to travel to Croydon, England, about five miles away, to purchase new shoes. Stuart Hazell, the partner of Tia's grandmother, Christine Bicknell, initially denied any involvement in Tia's disappearance. On August 9, he gave an interview to ITV News, expressing his innocence and praying for Tia's safe return. However, on August 10, Tia's body was found in the attic of her grandmother's home, wrapped in a black bed sheet inside a black bag. The discovery was made during the fourth police visit to the property. Following the discovery, Hazell was arrested on suspicion of murder. During the investigation, memory cards were found in Christine Bicknell's residence, one of which was hidden in a door frame on the ground floor. The memory cards contained images and videos, some of which had been deleted.
