Who wants a deep dive into the 54A Tabke-Paul election results that is the basis for the standoff in the House of Representatives? Minnesota Democrats and Republicans are still debating the legitimacy of the 54A House District votes. Tabke claims to have won by 14 votes while the County Election supervisor has admitted to discarding 20 ballots. Because of this election malfeasance, House Republicans are demanding a new election and will vote to not seat Tabke (the House is the ultimate arbiter of elections, not the courts). Tonight, I am looking at a spreadsheet of data from the Secretary of State listing "all" 22,905 voters who cast a ballot in 54A. The problem is, we are told that exactly 23,000 ballots were received and counted in that race, where Tabke supposedly won by 14 votes. 20 of the 23,000 ballots were illegally discarded, but it still doesn't solve for the problem of 96 additional ballots without 96 additional voting records showing 96 real people voted. I repeat: 96 MORE ballots were counted than the Secretary of State lists people voting. These records should match. They don't. One reason why there could be a small difference: In 2004, Republicans passed a law that allows people with restraining orders to not appear on a public voting record (https://t.co/AYnfznjQ9f) . So those voters would account for some of the 96 ballots. How many people are on this secret program? in 2022, there were 747 statewide. That averages less than six people per legislative house district. SIX. Not 96. 54A likely has more than 6 of these secretly registered voters, it is statistically unlikely this program would account for a majority of the ballots that are unaccounted for. For those looking at the 54A election results - the 21,980 ballots cast for both candidates and write-ins is actually less than the 22,905 voters who cast ballots because over 900 people who live in the 54A district cast ballots at the voting booth and did not check a box for anyone in that race (they may have just voted for President or they cast a blank ballot in protest or voted for more than once candidate in the 54A race and spoiled their ballot). Secretary of State Steve Simon needs to provide an accounting of the 96 extra ballots cast. It is reported today that seven House Republicans are willing to vote to seat Tabke, even with the 20 discarded ballots and the 96 ballots without a matching voting record. It is sad that election integrity is not a priority for some. At a minimum, the #mnleg needs to fix the safe-at-home program so candidates can verify a full accounting of voter registrations and perform their own canvassing. If you have a law on the books which specifically prohibits the public from auditing elections, you won't have faith in our elections.
