Against that background, #Merkel's 16 years can be considered a huge missed opportunity for German foreign policy thinking. In 2021, German foreign policy resembles more those of a medieval merchant republic than the #NormativePower Germany often considers itself to be.

The #CAI text shows EC is happy with #BusinessAsUsual:
🔶 Cheap talk of "voluntary uptake of relevant [CSR] practices" by 🇪🇺&🇨🇳 businesses;
🔶 Tacit acceptance that the CCP won't ratify ILO Conventions 29 & 105.
An abdication of 🇪🇺 #NormativePower.

If #Merkel refrains from criticizing #autocratization and lacking #RuleOfLaw standards in #Hungary , it does not only mark a new beginning for #Orbán, but also the further erosion of #German #NormativePower in #CEE.
