@KurtBassuener Yes. It’s hard to watch. Istanbul is my favourite place in the world. But anti-Arab racism in Turkey is deep-seated & disturbing (#NotAllTurks ofc). As someone w/ feet & heart in the Arab world, I’ve long been depressed by anti-Arab Qs I receive & assumptions I hear in Turkey.

Many Turkish ppl were *wonderfully* welcoming & empathetic to influx of Syrians post-2012 (#NotAllTurks & #NotAllEveryone on almost any discriminatory dynamic!). But I've witnessed shattering discrimination & v unsettling stereotypes abt Syrian ppl in Turkey, too.
