In just two and a half years, Hassan Sheikh and his government have propagated numerous false narratives, from "Somalia at peace with itself and the world" to #GuulamaGeri ("either victory or death") and #NotInch. However, all these narratives have failed, leaving the Somali people entangled in these empty promises and ultimately abandoned.

For over 24 hours, only 64 people liked the attached Government of Somalia’s condemnation of Ethiopian aggression.
Why? What happened to the rest of the patriots?
Of the 24 people who replied, fewer than a handful were positive or pro-government. The overwhelming majority ridiculed or blamed the Somali government for various reasons.
Why wasn’t there a stronger, more positive response? Why isn’t there an uproar among citizens over the government’s warning, as per the communiqué, about Ethiopia encroaching on our land?
The answer lies i believe in a growing credibility deficit. Many Somalis appear to lack faith in the government’s direction, which affects their willingness to rally behind it — even on existential issues like sovereignty, which demand national unity.
In my opinion, this trust deficit is a direct result of the federal government’s miscalculations, unilateralism, and untimely saber-rattling against those who oppose its often self-serving policies and other not critical issues. This political “civil war” — and that’s what it is — has demoralized citizens and alienated international partners. A top diplomat recently told a colleague that the international community will “watch until the FGS hits its head on the wall.”
In my 25 years of observing Somali politics, today is the day I am most pessimistic. My pessimism stems from the sense that Somalia’s political elite — particularly those squabbling over in the flashpoint of all flashpoints, Jubaland — have “crossed the Rubicon” and reached a point of no return.
I believe, now President @HassanSMohamud or Prime Minister @HamzaAbdiBarre, even if they wanted to, won’t be able to undo the rift between themselves and other political stakeholders. And sadly this was a totally avoidable rapture.
Earlier today, I called @JustAwHirsi to seek his counsel and upliftment. Instead, he began reciting Maxamed Nuur Fadal’s epic poem Lib-Gad (Betrayal).
I left the conversation with a headache.
