Very pleased to meet today with Panama’s Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez @JavierAchaPma, and his delegation for constructive and substantive discussions on preparations for the 56th #OASAssembly, to be hosted by Panama from June 22–24.
Our exchanges reflected a shared commitment to a productive, consensus-oriented General Assembly focused on strengthening multilateralism and addressing the common challenges facing the Americas. Panama’s leadership and engagement continue to demonstrate its longstanding commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and the inter-American system.
I look forward to joining member states in Panama during this historic bicentennial year of the Congress of Panama, as we work together to advance unity, stability, and prosperity across the hemisphere.
Today at the Permanent Council of the OAS in Washington, D.C., we were honored to welcome the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez @JavierAchaPma, whose country will host the 56th #OASassembly from June 22–24. His presence reflects Panama’s strong commitment to the inter-American system and to advancing dialogue and cooperation across our hemisphere.
As we approach this important Assembly, held during the bicentennial year of the 1826 Congress of Panama, we are reminded that the aspirations of hemispheric unity, democracy, peace, and collective action remain as relevant today as ever. Our region continues to face complex economic, security, and democratic challenges that require common purpose and renewed multilateralism.
Under Panama’s leadership, the upcoming General Assembly will be an opportunity for member states to strengthen cooperation, reaffirm shared principles, and advance practical solutions for the peoples of the Americas. We look forward to a productive and forward-looking Assembly guided by unity, stability, and progress. @CancilleriaPma
🇺🇸 This #July4th, we mark 249 years since the U.S. Declaration of Independence—an idea born in Philadelphia but shaped by shared revolutionary ideals across the Americas. At last week’s #OASAssembly, Member States recognized collaborative efforts to commemorate next year’s 250th anniversary and the bicentennial of Bolívar’s 1826 Congress of Panama—two milestones in our hemispheric pursuit of life, liberty, and the shared pursuit of happiness.

At the #OASAssembly, President @JoseLCaballero, Second Vice-President Arif Bulkan, Commissioner Roberta Clarke and Executive Secretary @TaniaReneaum met with delegations from the Caribbean: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Saint Kitts & Nevis; and from the Americas: Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay to dialogue about the protection and promotion of #HumanRights throughout the hemisphere.
As part of the #OASAssembly agenda, President @JoseLCaballero, Second Vice-President Arif Bulkan, Commissioner Roberta Clarke, and Executive Secretary @TaniaReneaum held a dialogue with Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs @MonaFortier and Ambassador of @CanadaOAS Stuart Savage to reaffirm their joint commitment to the promotion and protection of #HumanRights.
During the #OASAssembly, Executive Secretary of the #IACHR @TaniaReneaum met with @CorHersbach, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Trinidad and Tobago and CARICOM Member States, and Wouter Hogt, Representative to the @OAS_official.
They exchanged views on common priorities and explored ways to enhance collaboration in advancing and safeguarding #HumanRights throughout the region.
My wholehearted congratulations to my dear friend @RosaMariaPaya on her nomination by the #OASAssembly to @CIDH. I know first-hand how deeply committed she is to the global struggle for human rights, and how clearly she understands the ties between the brutal dictatorships of Latin America and the regimes in Minsk, Moscow, and Tehran.
I still vividly remember our conversation about her late father, Oswaldo — himself a victim of the brutal communist regime — and the image of Father Popiełuszko that belonged to him at the moment of his death, which she still carries with her to this day.
Rosa, your nomination is a tribute to your courage — and to your father’s enduring legacy.
