I helped run the #OMGCLIMATE unconference series last year, and doing so, I met @GarrigouAnneSo, the editor of @TheBeamMagazine.

- met a girl & got married
- got permanent residence in DE

Had an overwhelmingly educational day at London's #OmgClimate Unconference yesterday & sketched a few notes
Refreshing to hear from people thinking well, well above surface-level recycling milk cartons and BYOBags. Community organising, legal action, data/tech all big topics.
I've spent today referring to my phone as "the little carbon demon" after discovering how much CO2 I produce streaming video on it. ๐ฑ๐๐ฅ#omgclimate

okay, I enjoyed #OMGClimate a lot, but thing that was cool was that a fairly senior guy professionally, felt comfortable bringing his 6 month baby to the unconf, and everyone just ran with it, and the sessions worked fine.
We need more of this.

Great conversations at #omgclimate including one about flying in a climate emergency - what can we do if we โhave to flyโ (a question in itself). Iโve come away with some ideas for actions I can take.
Ok one close to my heart.
How to fly in a climate emergency?
- We need to get good at collaborating remotely, we need training.
- Have personal carbon budgets, KPIs/OKRs.
- Night trains are making a comeback across Europe.
- Do more per trip!

I believe streaming has dramatically improved my life (esp music via Spotify) but must admit Iโm increasingly concerned about the footprint (esp Netflix) #omgclimate
Thinking again about how ridiculous streaming is.
It costs ~TEN times as much energy to stream stuff as to play locally stored content.
Abundant storage is cheap,
network distribution and server costs are not,
and streaming exists mostly to gate off what should be OURS.
