Week 1 I have finished the "Operating Systems and You: Becoming a Power User" course. This is the third course of six Here is what I have learned: OS Navigation & CLI Mastery: The course covers navigating Windows using both the GUI and PowerShell, while introducing the Bash shell for Linux. It teaches the difference between absolute and relative paths, directory navigation, and advanced text manipulation using tools like grep, regular expressions, and input/output stream redirectors. User & Permission Management: A core focus is distinguishing between standard users, administrators, and the Linux root user. It outlines how to add or remove accounts, manage passwords, and enforce strict file permissions using Access Control Lists (ACLs) and read/write/execute bits. Process & Resource Monitoring: The curriculum dives into how operating systems manage hardware resources, process IDs (PIDs), and background daemons. It covers monitoring tools like Task Manager, Process Explorer, ps, and top, and teaches how to suspend or kill unresponsive programs using signals like SIGINT and SIGTERM. Disk & File System Configuration: You learn how to prepare physical storage by creating partitions and formatting them with file systems like NTFS for Windows, ext4 for Linux, or FAT32 for cross-platform use. It also covers mounting drives, configuring swap space for virtual memory, and using utilities like fsck to repair corrupted data. Software & Package Management: The course covers installing, updating, and removing software using Windows executables (.exe) and Microsoft Install Packages (.msi). On the Linux side, it emphasizes using the Advanced Package Tool (APT) to install programs and manage code dependencies easily Troubleshooting & OS Deployment: Troubleshooting skills are built by analyzing system logs in the Windows Event Viewer and the Linux /var/log directory. Finally, it introduces enterprise-level IT concepts, such as managing device drivers and using disk cloning to deploy an operating system across multiple machines at once. #ITSupport #GoogleITSupport #BuildInPublic
