In supporting the spending, the Top20% and #OilCos tell us that those social programs are important to them as well. Why shouldn't they contribute, too? Or is #AKforwardism's philosophy that we should give to middle & lower-income #AKfams with one hand and then take it right back with the other? If so, that's just another word for #AKpaternalism. What you and others miss is #WhoPays controls how much. If everyone - including the Top20%, #NonRez & #OilCos - contribute, everyone will push back. As a result of using narrow-based PFDcuts, to date only middle & lower-income #AKfams have been affected. On the other hand, as the @TaxFoundation said, "of greater significance for taxpayers, however, is that flat-rate income taxes tend to function as a bulwark against unnecessary tax increases, and to provide greater certainty for individual and business taxpayers." Because everyone is affected, "flat income taxes... tend to be harder to raise in the future." You want to stop tax increases, broaden the base so that everyone - including the donor class - is affected. You want to continue to let them grow? Keep them focused on a powerless minority (like the Alaska House Majority is proposing).

Oh, the real issue is how to tax? No, the real issue is WHY THEY KEEP DEMANDING MORE. Alaskans are tired of bloated bureaucracy, runaway spending, and endless excuses. The problem isn’t who pays it’s why we’re paying so much in the first place. But sure, keep playing think tank word games while the broke legislators picks Alaskans’ pockets!
