The multidisciplinary operation commenced with an operational parade addressed by the Station Commander of SAPS Humewood, Brigadier Hlomza, who encouraged members to execute their duties with professionalism, integrity and commitment while continuing to ensure the safety and security of the communities they serve.
Operation Basadi brought together female members from various SAPS stations within the district, supported by Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, demonstrating the strength of collaborative policing and the vital role women play in maintaining law and order.
The operation focused on high-visibility policing through roadblocks, stop-and-search operations and liquor compliance inspections. These proactive policing initiatives were aimed at reducing crime, improving road safety, ensuring compliance with legislation and creating a safer environment for residents and road users throughout the Motherwell policing precinct.
A total of 14 fines were issued for Road Traffic Act violations to the value of R 2050,00. A 55-year-old male was also arrested for the sale of liquor without a licence. Liquor to the value of about R 10 000,00 was confiscated. He will appear before Motherwell Magistrates Court on 06/08/2026.
As part of the day's activities, an Imbizo was also held with members of the community at the Vukani informal settlement in Motherwell. The engagement provided an opportunity for police and community members to discuss the ongoing challenges of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), as well as other serious and violent crimes affecting the area. The interaction reinforced the importance of community participation in crime prevention and strengthened partnerships between the police and the communities they serve.

As part of the 2026 Women's Month programme, female law enforcement officers from across the #SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay District united to conduct #OperationBasadi in the Motherwell policing precinct on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.
The multidisciplinary operation commenced with an operational parade addressed by the Station Commander of SAPS Humewood, Brigadier Hlomza, who encouraged members to execute their duties with professionalism, integrity and commitment while continuing to ensure the safety and security of the communities they serve.
Operation Basadi brought together female members from various SAPS stations within the district, supported by Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, demonstrating the strength of collaborative policing and the vital role women play in maintaining law and order.
The operation focused on high-visibility policing through roadblocks, stop-and-search operations and liquor compliance inspections. These proactive policing initiatives were aimed at reducing crime, improving road safety, ensuring compliance with legislation and creating a safer environment for residents and road users throughout the Motherwell policing precinct.
A total of 14 fines were issued for Road Traffic Act violations to the value of R 2050,00. A 55-year-old male was also arrested for the sale of liquor without a licence. Liquor to the value of about R 10 000,00 was confiscated. He will appear before Motherwell Magistrates Court on 06/08/2026.
As part of the day's activities, an Imbizo was also held with members of the community at the Vukani informal settlement in Motherwell. The engagement provided an opportunity for police and community members to discuss the ongoing challenges of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), as well as other serious and violent crimes affecting the area. The interaction reinforced the importance of community participation in crime prevention and strengthened partnerships between the police and the communities they serve.

The operation was further strengthened through the participation of female officials from the Provincial Traffic Department and Immigration officials from the Department of Home Affairs, demonstrating the effectiveness of a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to law enforcement.
During the operation, members stopped and searched 442 vehicles and 1 092 persons.
A total of 11 traffic infringement notices, amounting to R4 700, were issued for various traffic offences, while one male suspect was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The second phase of the operation focused on high-visibility patrols at shopping centres and within the Springbok Central Business District to enhance public safety, reassure communities and increase police visibility.
The launch forms part of the build-up to the Women in Law Enforcement Parade, which will be held at McLeod Stadium in Nababeep on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, where women serving across the criminal justice system will be recognised for their dedication, professionalism and service to the people of the Northern Cape.

During the roadblock, two suspects aged 34 and 38, were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. #sapsFS [WOMEN'S MONTH] As part of #OperationShanela II, members of #OperationBasadi took to the N1 earlier today where a high-visibility roadblock was conducted 10km outside Springfontein. The operation was led by Brigadier Street Sereetsi, District Commissioner of Xhariep, and Colonel Nyuliwe. The roadblock brought together Gariep District police stations and various provincial components, including POCC, #SAPS POP and #MountedUnit, HRM, Finance, Proactive Policing, VCIU, and Corporate Communication and Liaison.
The objective of the operation was to ensure the safety of road users while stamping the authority of the State by limiting the operational space for criminals. Women in blue conducted thorough inspections to ensure vehicles were roadworthy, and to detect criminal activities such as the presence of undocumented persons, illegal firearms, suspected stolen property, and drugs—thereby ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans.
Pamphlets on Gender-Based Violence (#GBV), #FightAgainstExtortion and related crimes were distributed to motorists as part of the awareness drive. #sapsFS On 8/08, SAPS Bayswater conducted a successful #OperationBasadi under the leadership of Capt Mokoena, who also spearheaded community engagement efforts. The operation involved members from various units, including one Vispol officer and three members, two detectives, and five PSA members. A vehicle checkpoint was set up at Gladstone Street, where 11 traffic offenses were recorded and two undocumented persons were arrested.

#sapsNW #OperationBasadi, led by the District Commissioner was conducted today in Greater Mahikeng. The operation was preceded by a parade attended by converging of members from different stations and units such as Flying Squad, K9, VCIU, and POP. Prior to dispersing for performance of their duties, the District Commissioner, Major General Mmatlhapi Mmolawa, addressed members. She encouraged female law enforcement officers to emulate and be perfect examples of the women who fought for liberation. She further urged members to look after and protect one another.
